I'm a proud user of Windows 7 since the day it's come out, been using it since, just today I upgraded to Windows 10, after a few hours dinking around, testing some games/benchmarks, I decided it wasn't for me and I went back to Windows 7. Windows 10 broke my computer guys. After having the first installation of Windows 7 via OEM disk freeze (which has NEVER happened to me before with any Windows OS Installation), I tried it again and it worked, however, I had to manually download my internet driver via USB, Windows Update is literally broken, I've tried multiple hot fixes from MS, all to no avail. Windows Update just hangs on "Checking for updates.." and maybe after a good 3 hours it will say it failed. Running a MS hotfix diagnosis says the "server registration is missing or corrupt" - however both services are running and functioning OK....so yeah.

Also, it seems impossible to install graphics drivers, I will also blame this upon Windows 10 as I had subtle yet noticeable problems with Windows 10. My graphics card should say AMD Radeon HD 7770 in Dxdiag, instead there's "AMD AtomBios" which I've never seen before in my life. I've tried multiple AMD installs and drivers, all to no avail, some say install failed, some say it finished yet no drivers appear to be installed any where.

Windows 10 broke my computer.

it's shit. basically a windows 7 reskin which doesn't work well. the only good thing about it is DX12, which, I think, isn't actually that good but because big game studios will start using it eventually it will dominate the industry. it fucking sucks but that's the cold truth

I had 10 for a while, it updated by itself and broke a driver, f.lux wouldn't work and it was a fucking mess. just like jeb. went back to 7 and noticed there actually is not a fucking thing different about it other than the UI. I don't use cortana or other botnet features so I don't miss them. 7 just werks, it's stable

now I'm going to go Arch full time even on my desktop. windows looks ugly and it can't be configured easily to look great. I had some time to install Arch on my laptops and realised I actually like it much more than windows

windows 10 drove me to install linux. I'm bitter I had to go back to 7, which is old and full of vulnerabilities. using linux on my laptop made me realise it doesn't have to be like this. I don't have to worry about my OS datamining my shit. there is no bloat in arch that slows the system down. it doesn't spy on my microphone or anything, it just does what's asked

microshit really blew it with 10. they should've kept developing it for 2 years more and release it when ready but now they are pushing unstable upgrades out all the time without even thinking how much they are annoying the userbase

It was fine at first, but the fact they give no freedom to the user to not be tracked and instead force them to agree to the tracking just to use the operating system.

And then they declared that they'd stop giving a shit about 7: Their OS that still has a rather sizable install base because of the fact that a part of the userbase didn't like 8 nor 8.1 so much. I still like 7 a lot because it's everything I want it to be: Simple and intuitive. And for years I've been happy with it and not having to deal with any bullshit. All memes aside, it just worked.

But with 10, not only do you have the spying that gets so interested in the shit I post like this on 4chan or what it is I jack off to. Do I fear that one day, at my funeral, Bill Gate's brain in a robot will drive up and tell everyone about the futa-on-futa porn I fapped to like the dirty degenerate I am? Because that's highly unlikely. But I just like to feel like when I use a computer, that my behavior is just best kept secret only to the people I wish to tell it to.

I just don't like it at all. I'm learning Linux in a VM so that when I feel I'm good enough to work it I can get away. So long I've grown use to the familiar, and long I've stuck around because of it. But now, I'm just done.

Thanks for reading my blog. Please like, favorite, and subscribe.

>inb4 bla bla pajeeet w
don't even bother I've already left this thread
>>
>>57179427
it's sketchy as hell
there's no valid reason for them to make updates and telemetry mandatory for normal users, and pushing the upgrade as an automatic update is unacceptable.

i still use it though because 'muh games' and i got it for free
>>
>>57179427
After today's test, I'll give it a strong 6.5/10
>>
Me bird got a laptop with win 10 on it, she's always moaning that all it ever does is update itself, it won't let her do anything while it updates, updating literally prevents her from doing any work on it, she doesn't even get to choose when to update. I just laugh at her for being thick as shit with computers.

>Dos
It was the first nothing impressive.
>Windows 1~3.11
Pretty significant steps each version adding something sensible.
>Windows 95
Taken all the good shit from 3.11 and pack it together with way better graphics and high resolution shit, made DirectX the defacto standard for PC games
>Windows 98/SE
Tons of minor improvements in the right direction.
>Windows ME
Literally 98 with gimmicks and somehow competently utterly unstable.
>Windows XP
A MAJOR leap in the right direction taking all the lessons from 98 and actually improving based on feed back and user/deveoper wants and needs.
>Windows Vista
XP but with pretty graphics and some gimmicks
>Windows 7
Literally XP with Vista graphics, XP perfected what it was meant to do. Windows 7 refined that and made it even more user friendly with formating never easier.
>Windows 8
Gimmicky Windows 7 that they tried to merge with Windows Mobile that failed so horribly they had to make 8.1 just to make it like old winodws and it still failed.
>Windows 10
8 left such a HUGE dark mark they decided to skip the number 9.
It's literally Windows 7 but with a search gimmicky and they're still pushing the one size fits all tablet bullshit. Nobody uses the gimmicks or the "windows store" at it's core it does NOTHING better in terms of UI or ease of access compared to XP.

What Microsoft should have focused on is shit like 21:9 and Multi Monitor support. I mean I still in 2016 can't have one clock on each monitor task bar... I can only have the clock on my "main monitor"... They also need multiple desktop support and icon arrangement that doesn't change if I turn off one monitor.

To me Windows changed VERY little since XP and every new one since then has been adding a shitload of gimmicking trying to see what sticks. But in reality nothing stuck and the core XP stuff is always there and the gimicks just come and go...

It's perfect. My Windows machine rides along on Linux's code immortality, boots UEFI, and is ridiculously malleable.
I can take it anywhere and enjoy it with fault tolerance, running it on my Dell server until the day I die and receive support into the future.
It has survived transition between 3 machines with only 6 hours of down time for VM transfer with no impact.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Windows, is in fact, Botnet/Windows, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Botnet plus Windows. Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another nonfree component of a fully unfunctional proprietary system made useful by the Microsoft bloatware, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by Microsoft.
Many computer users run a modified version of this botnet system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Windows which is widely used today is often called “Windows 10”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the botnet system, developed by the Pajeet Project. There really is a botnet, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Windows NT is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Windows is normally used in combination with the botnet operating system: the whole system is basically malware with Windows added, or Botnet/Windows. All the so-called “botnet” distributions are really distributions of Botnet/Windows.
>>
It lives as a secondary gaming OS on my laptop until:

1. It breaks and I dualboot windows 7 instead.
2. Linux get's it's shit together on optimus support.

>>

>>
Honestly, I have no issues with it. Granted I had to downloaded a 3rd-party utility to turn off all of the bullshit, but all in all it functions the way I expect Windows to, for better or worse. If it wasn't for DX12/Vulkan I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading from Windows 7 though.

I gave 10 a fair chance for an entire year. A few months ago I gave in and reinstalled my copy of 7. Between the forced updates, telemetry, broken search, terrible cortana, ads absolutely everywhere... I gave up. 10 is a disaster and Microsoft really needs a wake up call after this.
>>
>Non-consensual reboots destroy unsaved data,
and wipe clean your workspace setup.

It's not an OS for professional use.

>An update fails and rolls the system back to Windows 7.

It's also not an OS for consumer use.
>>
>>57180283
>It should be illegal.
People need to start suing Microsoft for their billable hours every time their rape-reboots destroy their work.
>>
I can ignore the shitty inconsistent UI, I can disable as much telemetry as possible, I can even deal with UWP apps (I was actually using Weather and Alarm a few times), but forced automatic updates and restarts can fuck right off. NOTHING new that W10 offers is worth it.
>>
>>57181084

>>
Let me try to be as serious as possible on a Tibetan sandpainting messageboard.

The dust has in no way settled on Windows 10. You have the privilege/responsibility of living in a time of an enormous paradigm shift in which the future of the human race is in your hands, as a technologically adept/interested citizen.

The "minor details" that /g/ sperges out upon such as to whether Windows 10 or Chrome are botnets, or selling your data to various governments and marketing conglomerates, are in fact crucial issues that will determine the future of civilization.

This is Council of Elrond tier shit and you, as a tech-minded citizen of a nation modern enough to provide you with internet access, are a participant.

Next time you're about to solve a captcha for your latest shitpost, ask if you're guiding the future in the way you think it should go.
>>
It's so weird how I've had zero issues with 10. All I do is video editing, gaming, software development, movie watching, torrenting, school work, work work, and browsing the internet. I guess I don't use my PC for anything a PC would normally be used for so I'm in the minority.
>>
>>57179427

Exactly as it was before. An OS to use for programs or applications that Linux cannot do. Or cannot do nearly as well. CAD, Adobe suite, rendering, games. All my important data is kept on a completely separate Linux drive. My Windows drive is pretty much blank other than utilities and bare bones of what's required to do what I want it to do. I don't even bother with wallpapers or anything.

I don't hate it anymore. My work laptop has W10 and unfortunately I can't install another OS on company hardware. It is what it is. Full of ugly telemetry and not very nice in the terminal, but at least there is a wealth of software developed for it. Annoying. It just does shit whenever it wants and has no big benefits over its previous versions.

- Updates. They download literally whenever, and you can only continuously delay their installation instead of disabling them. If left unattended, your Windows 10 machine may reboot at any time outside of your (12 maximum) "active hours" in order to give you updates that you didn't ask for.

- Scans your files (using resources to do so) and removes them if it thinks they are malware. What is malware? Whatever Microsoft decides is malware! You can disable this, but only temporarily. It turns back on at an unspecified time.

- Occasionally uses 100% disk usage with no trace of what's causing it. Everything slows to shit and I have to wait X minutes until it decides to stop. Had this issue on 3 separate Windows 10 machines.

- UI that's pulled in two directions. Half of it is for touch-screens, and the other half is for mouse+keyboard. There's inconsistent design everywhere thanks to this, and also 2 control panels with some overlapping options.
"I wanna change the bluetooth.
>opens Control Panel
>there is no bluetooth settings in the CP anymore
>you must look in the "Settings app"

- Things you didn't want: Ads for the Windows Store and 3rd party products in the start menu (which itself is a mess), Cortana gives you annoying popups by default, Microsoft OneDrive is enabled & integrated by default.

Even if you spend a day going through all the settings, tweaking everything, and disabling as much as possible, it's still annoying.

>>57179559
Actually this. I made the switch to GNU/Linux and I'm overall much happier. Windows 10 is a perfect example of why proprietary software sucks dick. I still have W10 installed for dual-booting, primarily for games. Most of the time Wine works fine, or there's a Linux version available.

Go through all the settings to disable all advertisement stuff and all the data you can.

Set up win updates to download automatically but to notify for a restart and installation instead of automatically install.

Disinstall crapware all laptops have installed on them.

Standard procedure.

I meant the telemetry, like current location, access to webcam, microphone, usage, etc.
Can't completely opt out, but at least deactivate what you can.

I still hate it.

I guess it's been a year now that I've been contemplating running windows in a VM for games, but I'd need a new CPU with vt-d

>oh you only have 32 gig on your netbook? we need 8 of that for this forced update
>thanks for the data even though you are on a metered connection
>this update is happening right now btw hope you saved your shit
>well it looks like the update broke a bunch of your programs, even sound isn't working whoops lol, you can rollback to the previous version any time
>but we will wipe your custom settings and delete the group policy editor just because
>rollback complete
>wow you opted to defer updates from now on huh, well it's been 24 hours so let's download that update and install it again while you're sleeping lol see you in the morning faggot better hope it's a weekend or your fucked at work tomrrow
>>

damn, what happened in that photo
>>
>>57187962
even if you disable every single thing relating to telemetery, forced updates and spying they will happen anyway. even if you make custom registry entries, use the group policy editor they still fucking happen. short of blocking all traffic at your router MS will have complete control over how your OS is maintained and they monitor everything you do. I wish I was joking.

there's a setting specifically for that you idiot

no it won't
>>
>>57189440
hence why I said it was on a metered connection dickhead
>>
>>57189452
what?
>>
>>57189448
it will, confirmed by independent security firms. MS also has a habit of undoing settings you make in order to force more things on you.

Not so much an operating system than a very good piece of adware that looks after the financial interests of the Microsoft Corporation. It's not your operating system - it's theirs. Icons appear and disappear from the task bar without reason or notice. The updates are still clunky and intrusive.

Oh, and your data belongs to them, too.

Apart from that, it's ok.

such as...?

>MS also has a habit of undoing settings you make in order to force more things on you

That was once due to an acknowledged bug due to how complicated a particular update was

Its the OS that made me move to linux (6 months ago). Have never looked back & now wonder why I ever used microsoft software.

Advice from a full time Linux user: just go balls deep

I learned basic terminal use from keeping 14.04 for source engine servers but learned so much faster from when I went to using 16.04 as my primary OS for the past 6 months.

I think it's bad.

Windows 10 as a mobile platform is clearly superior to Android and iOS if you've used it. Only problem is adoption rates and apps.
>>
Windows is dead to me as of 10. I had 7 running until my computer shit itself, it was absolutely perfect for my needs. Got a really cheap laptop with 10 and it has been a battle the entire time. I have completely lost trust in MS, I'm no longer going to use their software whenever possible.

I really think MS is shooting themselve in the foot. Businesses especially can't afford to update constantly because they can't risk stuff breaking. forcing updates is screwing a lot them over and I have no doubt this is causing a lot of them to reconsider using windows as a working platform.
>>
As someone who doesn't really like Windows 10, I think LTSB is fine. No feature updates, no Cortana, no shitty pre-installed "apps", feels pretty clean on a new install, etc. I just hate how the UI is inconsistent and all over the place, especially the context menus, and how you cannot completely disable the telemetry, only lower it down to the Security level, but other than that I haven't had any issues. Updates don't automatically downloaded and install for me, automatic restarts are disabled, haven't had any issues with bluescreens or crashes or anything like that.
