X220 with modern hardware. That includes CPU, GPU and that shit, screen and battery life.
Maybe could go up to 15.6" screen or anywhere in between 12 and 15.
And one little modification: The middle button could use a revision. Sometimes my thumb gets sore from using it for scrolling.

a customizable case, like a SandBenders from Idoru, with swapable modular components.

easily swapable components. like instead of aluminum like macbooks, make the whole thing polished magnesium, like old school mag wheels, or 60160 aluminium, anodizable or paintable to whatever you want.

i had an airbrushed like the side of a van Asus VXb83 back in 2009, that i got for my dad, and he brought to a computer shop staffed by two faggots that were caught fucking eah other in the ass from the booty smell and dicks in butt, that gouged the top of the lid.

he got pissed about that. his fault though, but since he does bodywork he fixed the gouge, and had a guy he knew do a mural on it with an airbrush, and then sealed it with epoxy based clear.

its still on there, he just uses it for youtube, and music.

Impossible perfect computer? A computer that does not produce any heat but has infinite computation power. Can emulate all possible hardware combinations at no performance loss, and has an infinite hard drive with every piece of human-created information ever made or that ever will be made in the future. It's a neural implant and has perfect internet access with no loading times for anything whatsoever, and is capable of perfect privacy.

Oh, but if we're talking something that could be made today:
>8.5" wide, 6" deep, 1" tall

>1TB PCI-E SSD

X220 is the closest thing to a perfect laptop for me

>Best size
>9 cell battery, great life
>Trackpoint
>Excellent keyboard for a laptop
>IPS screen
>Utilitarian design
>Lots of parts, easy to upgrade
>Reliable
>Can be docked
>Lights, buttons, cool ancillary things

What I would improve

>Better material all around (preferably polymer), more resistant to damage
>Higher resolution screen
>Better trackpad
>Nvidia GPU
>USB3 all around

To be fair I want the GPU, but don't need it; not much of a gamer anymore. I have one USB3 cause I own an i7. Higher res would be nice, but I can live with what I got. Trackpad would be cool, cause the one on here sucks, but I prefer Trackpoint anyway. My only real complaint is the plastic sucks, I've already replaced the palmrest and need to again as it's cracked in multiple places, so has the screen bezel and whatever surrounds the keyboard. No idea why, I'm not rough with the thing.

All in all, it serves me quite well, I haven't found a laptop I like more.

Probably an EliteBook with IBM's Trackpoint and a Macbook trackpad.
Or I guess at that point, just a Thinkpad with a Macbook trackpad. Preferably 11.1" a decent battery life. Modern ports, ethernet, dual MIMO radios. Oh, the magnetic charger from Apple is pretty solid as well, I'd go for it.

Nothing crazy for graphics cards, I'd prefer it to be portable enough. If it were possible, some sort of discreet graphics that don't bulk up the machine or toast it, but graphics card isn't a big deal.

That said, ability to plug it into a graphics card/dock would be pretty useful.

Can't think of much else. Maybe a modern expresscard slot if they're still a thing. PCIe storage or dual M.2... I'm drawing blanks. Not sure what else I could add.

I hate flipping my Surface Pro keyboard cover down like that. I'd remove it entirely if it weren't a power cover with a big-ass battery and if I didn't then have to stash it somewhere. Shit ALWAYS gets on the keyboard and touchpad and if I don't clean it off, it will get on the screen and it may scratch. That 180 degree shit is dumb.

Also, when holding the device, 4 fingers go on keyboard keys and I do NOT trust the shitty plastic caps to actually support the weight of my tablet.

Any hinge where the bottom of the laptop is always on bottom is better than any hinge where the keyboard ends up on bottom.

15.6 inch screen; cd/dvd drive: Intel i7 or higher cpu; decent gpu; internal ports+bays for both ssd and hdd; external esata port; 3 external USB 3 or C ports; responsive full-fledged keyboard with numpad; actual trackpad with clicking implement instead of these ridiculous unified clickpads; hdmi or mini hdmi port; vga port; ethernet port; sd-card reader; physical locking device which allows one to secure the screen to the body with a padlock or something similar; network hardware killswitch.

Latitude 7370 but with a 16:10 screen to cover the bottom bezel, a full sized SD card reader, and better battery life. Oh and for the HiDPI screen to come in a nontouch variant.

Standardized keyboard mount with standardized key mounting. YOu can replace individual keys, or the entire keyboard with a different layout if you need something other than the 101-key.

Once you go 109-key, you never go back.

the larger clevo laptops (and their modifications / rebrands by sager and system76) tend to have amazing keyboards. it's often their selling point. the W670SZQ sports what is likely still the best laptop keyboard available anywhere. they're also very easy to disassemble whenever you want to replace a part.

Some kind of bastard child of a Thinkpad and a toughbook. I want a laptop strong like ox, yet still able to use a docking station

Pretty much this but refreshed with Kaby Lake and a 1060.

Oh, and without all the coil whine and driver issues the XPS line has for whatever reason.

great battery life
at least 1920x1080 screen
at least 8 GB RAM
at least 1 USB3 and 2 USB2 connectors
SSD
no dedicated graphics card
fanless cooling
>>
My current laptop, but with a 1080p display instead of 1366*768

AMD A8
6GB RAM
1.5GB R5
1TB hdd
150/350 ssd/hdd hybrid drive
2xusb 3.0
1xusb 2.0
HDMI and VGA out
Bluetooth
5GHz 802.11ac
Gigabit Ethernet

Basically, it runs everything I throw at it without issue, including gaymes. Paid $199.99 brand new at best buy a year ago. I laughed at memepads, but this thing is the memepad's little brother (ideapad) and the build quality is really top notch.

I'd settle for a Tibook that didn't fall apart and with the specs of a later Albook.

clearly you have not used a proper dock before, they are pretty dope and will only get better

if they could build coprocessors into them like the razer gpu design, i would not see a reason to own two machines.

if i want the power of the coproc, i can tunnel home and load work to and from the dock portion...
