Got pissed at Firefox the other day and decided to give Vivaldi a try again. Can't remember when I last tried it, but I'm kind of surprised by how much they get right atm.

Here's an overview that helped me discover a few features, like tab stacking:
http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/04/even-at-1-0-vivaldi-closes-in-on-the-cure-for-the-common-browser/?comments=1&start=40

Any others that are following it's development and trying it every now and then? It makes me kind of sad that what I assume is a tiny team manages to make something that out of the box has a better UI than Firefox.

I hate Firefox because Mozilla numale-cuckoldry + 200000000mb ram,
I hate IE/Edge because it's so much shit I don't even know where to start,
I hate Opera because cheap hipster Firefox clone.

I really wanted Vivaldi to become a thing, but I must admit, it's even more shit than the rest.

I'm just gonna tell you the feature i love more than anything in that browser:
>give short nickname to most used bookmarks (e.g yt for youtube)
>enable "open bookmarks on nickname match" in quick commands settings
>f2, then type nickname
>profit

Also:
>give search engine a letter in the options
>f2, then type the letter, space, your query

You can do pretty much everything from f2, it's great
>>
>>57171122
Please expand.
Also, when was the last time you used it?
I used to hate default tab behaviour, then they finally added all the settings needed to set it how I wanted.
>>
>>57171759
Quick commands is a great feature, nice way to easily jump between tabs and windows when you have a lot of stuff open. It's nice that they include tabs from private windows too.

>>

An Opera dev wouldn't call their failed abortion of a browser "Chropera"
>>
>>57174362
That's why I keep trying it every now and then.

It's just kind of fun to use a browser which is not trying to be a thin bland chrome around the webpage. If that's what you like you'll be happy with Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Vivaldi is doing something different which is nice even if I don't end up using it as my main browser.

What did he mean by this? Firefox has the most extensive series of addons, extensions, and theming out of any of the browsers he listed, and even has more than Vivaldi.
>>
>>57178883
Yup, you're right. The Vivaldi team is more willing to expose it's users to all it's goodies without making it's users seek out extensions for everything.

Some people will like that, some people will prefer the way most other browser do it, thin chrome around a webpage + lurking around for extensions if they want them.

You can't stack tabs, round corners, change the location of tabs, and setup keywords for search engines in chromium. Also, believe it or not, Vivaldi runs considerably faster than chromium when it comes to Go-sites and heavy-js material-shit sites

>>
I recently dropped Firefox for Vivaldi, and I'm enjoying it. It's nice that I don't have to download 50 extensions to make Vivaldi good, and I like its customization options better than Firefox. And it's not Chrome, so that's automatically a plus.
>>
>>57171601
Ungoogled Chromium.
>>
>>57183128
They should try making a real UI instead of making a fullscreen Chromium web app. Then at least it'd be a fork and not just a website masquerading as a browser.
>>
>>57183168
What the fuck do you mean that it's not a real UI?

Well, Vivaldi is a disaster. It's a humanitarian nightmare. But it has fallen from any standpoint. I mean, what do you need, a signed document? Take a look at Vivaldi. It is so sad when you see what's happened. And a lot of this is because of botnet.

It's much better than dropdown menus or bookmark bars, t.b.q.h familia
>>
>>57170657
Did they fix the CTRL+number thing, or at least add settings to make it work just like every browser? I'm gonna finally switch to 8.1 (from XP) if they've made that work correctly.

Instead of going to the third browser tab when pressing CTRL+3, it takes me to the last tabs I accessed, instead.

You're in luck f.a.m.
You can edit all the keyboard shortcuts you want.

Plus in Vivaldi you almost never need to focus the adress field because you can do everything from the quick command menu (f2) even when in fullscreen or minimal interface.

Except adding bookmarks.
That's my only beef with Vivaldi right now.
Having the bookmarks add dialog tied with the address bar. I can't add bookmarks from ui-less interface.

It's not.

Is Vivaldi still a slow piece of shit?
If not, then I might consider
>>
This slow, non-free Chromium-based shit? Try otter-browser. It's lightweight and has the same UI as Vivaldi and old Opera. You just need to customise it a bit so it won't look shit. Though I think its development is a little bit slower than Vivaldi's.

https://otter-browser.org/
>>
Is there a place to download extensions or addons?
Is it open source?
Does it have an ad blocker that is in active development?
Am I able to style the browser at all?
Are you able to manage cookies, scripts and iframe black/whitelisting on a site-by-site basis?

If no to any of these then no thanks
