/g/ i am in middle of choosing cpu for my work station pc
i need it to be fast as possible that get the shit done quickly.
right now i am thinking of going with i7 6700 any other suggestions ?
and i will not be over clocking
user case is:
software related tasks
running vm in linux running
ide
compile and shit

yeah go ahead

get a 5820k / 6800k instead
>>57170172
yes
An i5-6600K at stock clocks has the same performance as an i7-6700 as it comes at a higher default clock.
Even if you're not overclocking, the 6600 is a better buy.

but it does not support hyper-threading for good multi-threading performance.
>>57170231
It still has significantly better Quad core and single core performance
>>57170231
If you really cared about squeezing extra performance, you should go for the 6700K as it turbo's higher than the 6700 as long as you cool it well.
You'll end up paying only slightly more, with a much better performing and quieter PC.
Or, if you want real multicore, go for a 5820K or a Xeon.

it's shit.
>>57170263
>muh threads
go with a 6-core

> 6700K
i looked into it, in the end you pay $20 to 30$ extra for cpu and around $45+ for cpu cooler.
i am not sure if $80+ worth it when you are not gonna overclock 6700k .
>>57170268
> 6 cores
do i really need 6 cores ? no idea, but it will be cool.
i will look into 6800k if local dealer had better deal.

depends on the applications that you want to run in your vm.

I max out my 8350 regularly.
