I was thinking about ordering a couple HGST Deskstars but a common complaint was about how loud they are. Do any of you notice the drives make loud noise and run extremely hot? I really don't want to order a seagate and have it fail in 2 months

About 2/3 of my hdds are HGST and I've never had any of those problems.
I've had a few that got hot but not much more than a WD or Toshiba drive.
As for noise? Nothing, but I keep my tower pretty far away, so if there is any noise I can't really notice it.
Oh, mine aren't the deskstar line but the ultrastar, but I'm not sure if that's a huge factor.

ultrastar owner checking in. Quiet for a hdd I guess. No regrats. I also have an old Seagate drive from 05 that still works but chirps at me, its loud af.

Get the ultrastar if you can
I've had a 4TB HGST Deskstar running 24/7 (at 8200RPM according to SMART status even though it says it's a 7200RPM drive) for two years and never notice it

They make an initial noise during seek. Loudness really depends if you have them in a case or a dock. If it's a dock, watch out for the 2011-2012 models.
