What I'm saying is get a mobile plan that has legit unlimited high speed data (ie $60/month metropcs/boost mobile), install pdanet, and route internet from your phone to your pc/laptop. You get internetz and charge your phone at the same time. You win every time!

You can also root your phone and force it to broadcast a mobile hotspot but is more tricky if not impossible.

No, USB mode works on 99% of Android phones with no need to root. Typically carriers will put software locks for the mobile hotspot thing so root and some H4X0R skills are required (ie google and browsing XDA).

They'll want you to pay them a monthly fee, not worth it. Especially since they can cut you off anytime they feel like it by changing their password. Try the mobile pdanet thing at least for a month. You can get super cheap phones that support lte and enhanced lte from boost for as low as $20 (see huawei union on their site).

Not a real issue especially for LTE. It usually hovers 20-40ms for me which is good enough to get my in the top 5 of the leaderboard in BF4.

On 3G latency really is shit though, usually bouncing from 100-200ms.

except that's not the case. it's a matter of ISPs being pieces of shit and the government not keeping them in check. the 1996 telecommunications act accomplished fuck all. the bulk of the US is serviced by one, or at best two, internet providers. if it's two they usually split up the market such that one will provide cheaper low speed packages while the other provides cheaper high speed packages.

if you're out in the middle of nowhere you are even more fucked because they haven't/won't run wire to you so your only choice is satellite internet which gives you dial up speeds at broadband prices and cuts out whenever it's cloudy.
