I have 1 500gb WDC passport. Works fine until today (from 2 years ago). Bought another but in 1tb.
Bought a 320gb transcend back in 2008, it still works despise being dropped a few times and randomly turned off due to shit cable during a certain period, then again I only plug it in when I need it so it only has like 2000 POHs. Bought a 1tb drive from the same manufacturer early this year because why not, none of the drive and flash memory card from transcend fails on me so I found no reason to switch.

i have a Seagate 2GB Backup Plus
i've had it for 2 years and i haven't had any problems with it.
i bring it to work with me every day and it's plugged in at least 7 hours, 5 days a week
it's been dropped a few times.
it's just about full so i'm going to get a bigger one in a few days
i can't say that i am brand-loyal to Seagate, but this is about the 5th or 6th one i've owned and next one will probably be Seagate as well.
WD MyBook 1TB since May 2010.
