Are skylake CPUs expected to drop significantly in price when Kaby-lake is released?

I need a CPU for a 1151 MB, wanted to go with i7-6700. Could I save some monnez on that CPU if I wait for Kaby to become mainstream?

No.

No.

Just buy what you want when you have the money to buy it.

Aight, thx!

I'm kinda tight on money but would have no problem waiting a few months (Current PC has a core-2-quad CPU from 2008 btw).

Alright then, I'll go with the 6700 now. Neato.

Hey falcon, what do you think about the MSI Z97 PC Mate for a I5-4460? Should i invest extra for an ASUS Z97-A? Its only $30 more but i would have to drop the HSF.

>>57138144
wait at least for Zen even if you buy from Intel

6700 user here it's pretty comfy and a solid choice but the K version does perform a bit better
>>
>>57138144
if you got any questions on it, ask away. only time I could recommend it is if you're building low power system as it uses 30 watts less power than a 6700K for only a slight performance hit but still comes off slightly better in performance per watt

>but the K version does perform a bit better
Thing is I have a H170 board so I won't use any overclocking features anyway. So I can save a little by not buying an unlocked K-version.

Or is there any other benefit to the K version?
>>
>>57139580
not really just slightly more performance with a higher power consumption as the trade-off the 6700 turbo boosts to 4Ghz while the 6700K turbo boosts to 4.2Ghz, reason I got the 6700 was the lower price as well as coming with a heatsink and it runs nice n cool so I could put the extra towards a better GPU, I'm on a Z170 board but the 6700K seems kinda like a waste of money if you're not gonna take full advantage of the overclocking benefits, the difference in performance at stock clocks really isn't anything you're really gonna notice.
>>
>>57139580
Pretty much a better CPU quality wise. Both Intel and AMD, afaik, make their CPUs in bulk, the better the silicone chip, the higher the grade and price. Ks are pretty much the best ones quality wise because of that.

If you don't plan to OC and it's a significant price difference 15-20% I wouldn't go for it, if it's 5-10% I would since it should behave marginally better, for a marginal increase in price.

As someone else stated tho, it also depends on how much power you ant drawn. More power > more heat and strain on the PSU. A nonK might keep your rig cooler and negate a bit of thermal throttling.

tl;dr: Price difference >10% no, <10% maybe
>>
>>57139651
Alright thx! I'll go with the non-K one then.

But boy am I looking forward to that. As my main PC now is from 2008 I expect a ridiculous performance boost. Actually if my core-2-quad would support virtualization I'd wait even longer.

Yep that sounds more like what I want. I don't need the last few % possible but long hardware life. Less power consumption is nice as well..
>>
if 6700 is under-performing K version does that make the K version an under performing xeon?
>>
Wait and buy AMD

>Our demanding 4K trailer (HEVC Main10, 50 Mbps, 60 fps) is handled smoothly by the i7-7500U at an average power consumption of just 3.2 Watts (CPU Package Power), while the video stuttered noticeably on the i7-6600U despite a consumption of 16.5 Watts.

Wait for Kaby Lake

Buy a budget motherboard, if you are not buying an unlocked cpu.
>>
>>57140433
Xeons underperform in single thread performance already
The core series has always had the best IPC
>>
>>57142441
Don't forget a GPU makes CPU-based 4K encoding irrelevant
The best thing about Kaby lake is literally the igpu

>>57139543
>>57139580
If you're gonna spend $300+ anyway, what's another $20? Anytime I try to save money like that I always regret it, but I try to future proof because I only upgrade like once every 6-8 years.
>>
>>57142860
H97 motherboards are just as expensive in mexico, and so is B85.

There is only a $5-15 difference between them.

Also i would like to have a x16 and a x4 PCIe port.
