If you hit a palm rest you most likely smacked the HDD while it was in the middle of something and either seriously damaged it or knocked a connector loose.

Look up a video on how to get to the HDD and get the right screwdriver, it looks like you're trying to unscrew the hdd panel with a steak knife or something.
