Does Gentoo have any legitimacy to its utility/security compared to other distros? Or is it a complete meme with an unnecessarily hard installation?

I mean I understand the whole learning through experience thing and that's the best way to understand something, but there is also something to be said for the value of a teacher and student relationship, so if anybody would care to enlighten me, I'd be grateful.
I like having a lot more control over my packages' components than most other distros allow, as well as being able to have a system compromised only of what I need to have the system running. Despite gentoo being bleeding edge, it has always been extremely stable for me, and the various quality of life tools littered throughout the distro are without match in any other. Arch doesn't compare.

its not really bleeding edge if you dont use the unstable version.

It's the most stable rolling release with modern packages.
Though they are autistic about some.
intsall a gentoo XD!
