Why don't they convert some of the note 7s into small dev board and computers? All they would need is a simple carrier board and basic linux drivers.

They could be sold for around $99 or so. The amount of them made would mean they could likely sell it for a few years.
>>
>open linux dev boards with samsung SoCs
good luck with that
>>
>>57127000
Why don't they just replace the battery with a reliable one...
>>
>>57127019
Because the battery itself is not the problem.

t. not a samsung employee

>Dev board
>Samsungs zero documentation magic box SoC

That sounds terrible.
>>
>>57127019
they literally did that with the replacement note 7s. they continued to spontaneously combust.
>>
>>57127083
Most of them are snapdragon 820s though. They should already have linux drivers from chromeOS and their automotive version.

Exynos linux support isn't actually that bad, samsung semiconductor division has no issue supporting anyone to make linux drivers if you buy SoCs from them. It becomes messy because samsung phones are essentially a separate company. The semiconductor side won't write linux drivers unless customers ask for them, the phone division won't ask them and pay for linux support because it doesn't benefit them in anyway if linux support lets them sell more SoCs.

Samsung phone division can ring up qualcomm or samsung semi and ask for linux drivers anytime they want.

They did. Even lowering the overall amperage output the battery was allowed.

Still didn't do shit.

If I had any money to speak of, I'd bet it that it has to do with the fast charging nonsense not working well with the power components on the board, and making the battery overwork/overheat/similar.
Not necessarily that the charging itself was damaging, that perhaps something in the design of the power handling components gets "stuck" in one mode or another, causing the immolation.

I've seen it happen to cheap RC Helicopters/Drones, the ones that advertise "CHARGES IN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES~"
They end up exploding in the air while the battery is discharging, after a "fast charge" but if trickle-charged, it's almost always fine.
>>
>>57127207
Na, they didn't.
The batteries were just too complex for their manufacturing methods due to the capacity.

Every manufacturing process has a defect margin. That is part of why we have warranties. The problem is that with these batteries the margin was a fraction of a percent higher than normal, but that translates into tens more failures, and the failures happen to be fairly catastrophic.

Potentially they could have fabbed a slightly smaller capacity battery instead to save it and give people some refund anyway due to the changing of the spec, but they couldn't just keep issuing recalls and replacements until they got it right.
>>
Because the problem with the Note 7 isn't the battery - it's the actual hardware circuitry of the phone.
>>
>>57128014
No, it is literally the battery.

No, son, it literally isn't the battery. That's the final result of the defect aka the effect - the cause is the circuitry in the phone itself.

Same device, two batteries from different manufacturers, even firmware that lowers the charge capacity and the failures still happen.

"Burn me once, shame on me it's the battery... burn me twice with a completely new different battery... ok something is up with this circuit, man..."

Yeah because >>57127843

It's literally the battery. The batteries are defective inside which, over time, results in a short inside the battery cells themselves which ends in fire. Charge capacity has nothing to do with it. They just can't adequately construct the batteries at a low enough defect rate.

All Note 7s use Qualcomm Snapdragon 820.

Samsung isn't using Exynos for Note7.

kek, when you're the one being retarded you don't get to patronize, son

The money required to collect all of the Note 7's returned into one warehouse, open them out of their boxes and dismantle them is probably worth more than the cost of anything they want to make out of them, at least in labor.
>>
>>57128285
They are going to dismantle them and try to recycle them for gold and other metals. They aren't allowed to dump them in landfill.
>>
Anyone who thinks they will be permitted to keep a Note 7 is delusional. They are hazardous. They are banned on public aviation.

Here is what will happen:
Carriers and Samsung will continue to offer replacement devices plus a carrot ($100 on top of a full replacement other device/refund). Those who ignore this will get push messages/texts/calls from their carrier and Samsung telling them to return the phone.

Eventually, it will become more forceful. Carriers aren't going to like the liability for exploding phones, nor Samsung. They will eventually cut off service to the phones. This will probably occur in a variety of ways
>mandatory OTA that disables substantial or all device functionality
>Blacklisting based off the IMEI (one of the fields on the IMEI identifies the model, Samsung gives it to all the major cell phone carriers in the US and they blacklist from their networks)
>Using built in reactivation lock unilaterally against Note 7 devices.

Nobody is going to want to keep a phone that might explode rationally when newer shit is already coming out. No one is going to develop custom ROMs when future driver updates, changes, etc. will not be developed by Samsung for the hardware to use as a base. It's fucking dead, Jim. Return the phone.

That's why I suggested selling them as small non mobile devices, there's no reason they can't be plugged in and used with the battery removed for many other things. It's only a matter of unlocking the bootloader and releasing very basic drivers. Selling them for anything will make more money than extracting a few cents of metal per phone.

SURE LOOKS LIKE SOME EXYNOS MODELS OF THE GALAXY NOTE 7 THERE, BUDDY.
