Is the GTX 1070 enough for absolute consistent 60fps at 1080p on full ultra with AA in all games? (Excluding retarded features like physics smoke etc)

I can't really be fucked to spend anot her $400 on a 1080 if there's no point and I don't really plan on getting a higher resolution monitor
>>
What do you mean another $400? The GTX 1080 is like $200 more than the 1070.
>>
>>57112331
No trouble and perhaps even an overkill
On 1440p you COULD get a few fps drop in specific cases.
>>
GTX 1080 Ti
>>
>>57112344
Aussie dollars
>>
>>57112331
not on mafia 3 no.
>>
Yes, it's more than enough and it's going to be able to run everything maxed out at that resolution for a good time to come.
Not to mention you can OC the 1070 fairly close to the stock 1080.
>>
>>57112331
>Is the GTX 1070 enough for absolute consistent 60fps at 1080p on full ultra with AA in all games?

I'm fairly certain it is. Much weaker cards are also able to do 60fps at 1080p on ultra in the latest games.
>>
1070 is the 144hz 1080p card. Get a 1060 6gb
>>
>>57112880

Trying to scrape by the bare minimum like that is the recipe for having to constantly upgrade.

1060 might be adequate for now, but it's not going to be enough a year or two from now.
Turn on the hairworks in Witcher 3 along with everything else cranked to max and you're already seeing the 1070 barely hang above 60fps in the more demanding areas like forests.
Think 2 years in the future.
No way in hell is the 1060 going to be enough.

Prolly gonna go with this build then, thoughts?

(SSD and HDD being used for old build)
>>
>>57112960
What do you need 16GB RAM for?
You might be able to save 20 bucks or so on the GPU.
Good build though, what site is that?
>>
>>57113036
MSY Computers australia

Really good prices desu highly recommend
>>
>>57112960
Very expensive build
>Too expensive case (that's a personal prefference though)
>CPU is a bit overkill.
>GPU is also a bit overkill.
The RAM is fine, but you could save some money there aswell.
>>
>>57113164
Also. CPU cooler is overpriced. Get something better for cheaper. Don't underestimate air cooling
>>
>>57112960
Just so you know, that case i massive. I got a 600T and AFAIK they're both the same size. like 25lbs of steel massive.
>>
>>57113164
Take into account it's australian. I was confused why his stuff is so expensive too.
>>
>>57113163
Cheers fellow ausbro.
>>
The 1070 will be more than good enough but even though you have picked a Corsair power supply the CX model just isn't good enough NEVER EVER skimp on the PSU an RM series or EVGA supernova as it's the ripple on lower spec PSU's that shorten the life span of components

Cheaper than Umart though?

Related question; would a mid-range i5 CPU from four years ago be enough to use the 1070 to its full capacity? Or should I pony up and get a new one?
>>
>>57113292
What do you suggest that is in a similar price range? Is 750w too low?
>>
>>57113304
You're probably fine with the cpu but it depends what games. Witcher 3 and gta etc (and arma 3) will need a better one. For battlefield etc you will probably scrape by fine
>>
>>57113304
I've been looking at the i5 6500 and 1070, adds up to about ~900 turnbullBux on umart
>>
>>57113316
If anything, 750W is overkill unless you're planning to add another 1070 later.
>>
About graphics card.
I saw an rx 480 4gb nitro+ for €220.
Is it a good deal? I'm in italy
>>
>>57113304
Cheers for the rec, those are some good prices

Dam, Witcher 3 is the game I wanted to pimp out. Goodbye another grand because I'll need a new mobo
>>
>>57112960
i'm a bit under the impression that your PSU is overkill. <=650w should be fine for a single GPU build in almost any circumstance. you could probably match it up a little bit and get a gold one while you're at it.
>>
>>57113526
>>57112960
forgot to add, just don't go below 500w
>>
>>57113532
Ever 450W would be sufficient for that build. Remember that 1070 only draws 150w.
>>
>>57113537
don't go super cheap on PSU. it's not worth it. 550-650 is the average safe range.
>>
>>57113537
>look at 1070 box
>180 tdp
>not even overclocked yet
>>
>>57113656
200W for the 1070 + 150W for the i7 still leaves 100W for everything else.
>>
>>57113667
Is that enough though?
>>
>>57114053
Yes.

>>57113667
Never fucking cheap out on a PSU.

No need to go overboard with the wattage but leaving a small margin will eventually cause power hunger just because you have more peripherals connected and power settings in the OS pushed up.

There are more than enough retards that have worse performance on their hardware that's better than mine and tweaking windows only gets you so far.
>>
>>57113304
the i5 6500 does ok in my build with a 1070 but I am upgrading to an i7 because in some games it holds me back
>>
I play at 1440p/144hz with a 1070 and the only game I can't max out is GTA V. Other than that, games like Far Cry 4 and the Witcher 3 I can max and get about 65-75 fps minimum.

>tfw antec high current gamer 620m

God tier psu. Bought it for piss cheap too since the guy who listed it didn't realise the modular variant cost more than the regular one. It was brand new too.

Why is the 1080 falling in price but the 1070 remains stable?

Really makes me think
>>
>>57116332

They're most likely gearing up for the 1080Ti release, trying to create a sweet spot for the card.

All running fine on a 450w sfx gold rated psu.
>>
>>57116507
With a 1070 of course. Forgot to add that.
>>
How long will a 1070 be good for, for 1080p gaming?

3 years? 4?

What about triple monitor set-ups?

Hey guy, thanks for the question. I am official from liuns tic tacs. I bought good 1070 from evguhh and it play Bad Rats real goodly. I bougt big 4k monitor (25500 x 1660) with 15in screen for my gaming laptop that was sponsered by razer mice, although i would never use spectrum because it was created by people on the specturm (jews in particular).

>Much weaker cards are also able to do 60fps at 1080p on ultra in the latest games

I have a 1060 and it most certainly can't max out all the latest games at 1080p/60fps. Nor will a 1070 when it comes to games like Mankind Divided or Quantum Break or Mafia III. Even a 1080 can dip below 60 in the latter. Sure, they're shit ports, but they still exist.
>>
>>57118940
Quantum break still looks good at even medium settings. At least you didn't fall for the 480 meme as the 1060 gets like 30 fps more than the 480 in qb
>>
>>57112331
I decided that the 980, for its price was the best thing for 1080 gaming at max. I got it just at 270 euro's. Even with warranty. A superclocked evga version.

It seems to beat everything else in its price class. Did I choose well?
>>
>>57119167

You fucked up.

A 1060 is on par and in some cases better than a 980, while being much much cheaper.
>>
>>57119181
not so much in euroland, 1060 hovers at 300 buckaroo's, while I got the 980 cheaper.
>>
>>57117689
1-2 years

The GTX 970 released last year is already borderline too slow.
>>
>>57112331

Buying into the Nvidia meme was your first mistake.

For longevity, AMD is always top choice. Nvidia pump and dump cards every 1 to 2 gens.

rip Kepler, already being outperformed by even the lowest end of other architectures.
>>
>>57112331
Depends on the AA, not with 4x SMAA
>>
>>57112331
Buy an EVGA 1070 SC from Amazon. $550 aud shipped.
>>
>>57119167
same. bought a 980 for cheap a year ago and it runs everything i throw at it like a champ. very, very good card and the evga cooler is sexy and keeps temps down.
>>
>>57119213
this
>>
>>57119247
So if you can afford $400 every 2 years you should get Nvidia. If you can't and need to wait 3 years for your card to start outperforming Nvidia cards from the same year you should get AMD. Got it.
