I don't know how many of you do tech support either over the phone or in person for the elderly, as you can imagine, it is hell.

What features would an old-person friendly computer have? I've gotten calls from old ladies not knowing where the power button is on desktop towers before so whatever innovation you have in mind has to be completely retard air-tight.

Here's an idea I had:
Most options in the operating system would be hidden, only accessible by entering an easily-googleable password that all computers share.
>>
Sometimes it makes you wonder if it's okay to just euthanize them all.

Just put one button on it

A big red one that takes them to a pornhub and starts a random video
>>
The only computer that works for a person like that is a sandboxed tablet like environment.

It's the pinicle for UX but it's the death of user freedom and understanding of their machine.

There are those who don't want to understand their machine.
Your idea reminds me of those kids tablets they sell. When something goes wrong or a setting needs to be changed you login as a "Parent"

Maybe there could be something similar, like a "grandson" mode

People that don't care to be intimate with their machine need:

>porn
>Facebook
>general web browser
>(google search cababilities)
>YouTube
>general media player
>iTunes would work because normie a have 0 ability to use torrents or any type of encryption base media transfer
>maybe a word processor

Literally that's it, if you can make an UI environment that consists of that only it would work

>hence the reason iOS is popular

Only if they're completely helpless.
My memaw is in her late 70s/early 80s and can use an her iPhone, iPad, and laptop.

I would like it if the word processor was on a cartridge. The cartridge must be inserted to use the program. All the licensing (if any was required) would be on the firmware of the cartridge. No installing required, no online accounts.

If you want to use another program like Quickbooks or whatever you would have to take out the word processor cartridge and put in Quickbooks. Resource use is kept within what the computer can handle.

Let's face it. The elderly who won't figure computers out don't multitask.

Ignorance is a choice. Clearly "Memaw" has made a good choice regarding her [self-]education.

Your "Memaw" reminds me of a good point: There's little excuse for not knowing how do to what you need on a computer. The internet is a great resource.

Just make a OS that boots directly into a browser
then you make all the shit run in Webapps
oh wait google already did this with chromebooks, and they are great for computer illiterates
picked up a HP chromebook for my mom and she hasn't had any problems
>Linux with a locked down root partition so its next to impossible to break (but normies don't care)
>Chrome
>Google Docs
>Gmail

I didn't even think of this! That's exactly what a Chromebook is!

I did it

>facebook
>porn
>google searches from voice
>youtube
>phone
>music player which will open with a couple large buttons that give them the option to listen to music or rent movies
>email / word processor
>emergency help call that calls family member or emergency services
>A help button with step-by-step instructions on everything or direct contact to microsoft help office
>a settings tab only allows you to change volume, brightness, font size, simple things etc...
>below is a pull up tab that requires you to hold a button on the side of the device as well as drag it up (to avoid slip-ups) which has all the real options and settings in it.
