Who /DSP/ here? Made any plugins? I'm really liking JUCE for the build schemes to build AU/3, VST/3, etc all in one project.
The programming of DSP applications is different from your typical stuff. In DSP-land you are writing code that continuously samples an input stream, processes it, and returns it all in under 10ms. No threading, no locking, nothing. It all has to be done by hand, or you will get audio dropouts - meaning your application is useless.

What I mean is you are discretely sampling a continuous input stream
I've been wanting to get into DSP processors for embedded stuff but most of them seem to be assembly-focused.

hmmm...

You could use a program like sonicbirth or synthedit instead :^)
I like to take fourier transforms of anime girls and do nonsense to them

ARM-Cortex M4F processors can do almost everything a DSP can.
Dsp! Took a class in it last summer and the first few lectures bored me to tears. Once we started make filters and applying them to sound and images it blew my mind. Currently trying to get a job in that field
