I have to create a database and access it with a java app. I know some java but i have no idea about servers and know only very little about databases. Where do i even start? The project is due in 2 months.
lookup jdbc.
also netbeans allow to configure with a few clicks a (quite shitty) java db called derby, otherwise installing mysql/mariadb isn't difficult at all if you can read a tutorial
Your job as a student is to learn.
So do just that. Go on your favorite search engine and document yourself.
If you can't do it, you probably should stop working with computers, mate.
Learn what servers and db are, the basic concepts behind them. Then search what tools you can use, and start learning those tools.
But as a student, don't just search for a complete guide that will do all the work for you. Learn.

not him but you already have all the keywords
>how to access a <database here> database with java
go use SQLite or MariaDB or MySQL
I would say SQLite would be the easiest but I don't use java

SQL
servers are just remote computers. usually accessed via ssh, putty is a good windows client. but you can just run a database on your windows computer, no need to put it on a remote computer.

jpa
hibernate
these are orm tools for java. it's fairly simple to create a database and persist objects in them

Download and install mySQL. Java side use hibernate to configure database connection to it.
