Why doesn't /g/ revere the 2010-2012 era Macbook Pro?

>Perfect trackpad
>Amazing screen (even for today with the 1680x1050 matte display)
>Easy as to upgrade / repair as can be
>Great battery life for day-to-day usage
>Minimum spec i7, can turn optical drive into SATA bay, max 16GB RAM
>Runs literally any OS beautifully with minimal compromise
>Can be had for $400-800

How is this not the best laptop in existence? Why does /g/ ignore or hate on it?
>>
>>57095735
Let's add in:
>amazing keyboard
>solid chassis that can take major dents and survive
>fantastic resale value
>OS X if you're into that sort of thing, or MacOS if you aren't
>magnetic charger cable
>plentiful and well taken care of, with most machines having been supported by a 3 year OEM warranty
>>
>>57095735
>>57095786
The laptop displayed in the picture is a 2012-2015 MacBook Pro Retina, which are vastly superior to the 2010-2012 non retina models.
>>
>>57095735
>Why does /g/ ignore or hate on it?

>Can be had for $400-800

too much senpai
>>
It's too big, I will probably get the 13" version next time.

-posted from my rmbp
>>
>>57095827
That is true, I used the wrong picture. I'm drunk.

But, vastly superior? I'm not sure. It's not repairable. Not upgradable. Something goes wrong and it's out of warranty and you're fucked. Also the cheapest one goes for like $1k.
>>
>>57095851
$400 computer, with about $100 in upgrades (SSD+RAM) makes it as fast or faster than the vast majority of 2016 computers? Good deal, senpai
>>
>>57095870
>Not repairable.
>Not upgradable.

Board can be easily replaced.
SSD can be easily replaced.
Display assembly can be easily replaced.
Battery/touchpad/keyboard are tricky, but top case assembly is cheap and includes all of those.
>>
>>57095930
Okay, it's not bad. The optical-drive Macbook Pro blows it away in user serviceability, which is crucial when you're on a budget and want to stretch your dollars.
>>
>>57095735
>no clitmouse
into the trash it goes
>>
>>57095930
the logic boards for that era still sell for as much as a used one, so doing the repair yourself would be retarded and a waste of money. you may as well just buy a new laptop.

the display assembly is like >=$200 easily too

it would be retarded to dump that much money into repairing a used macbook
>>
>>57095735
Oh look another shitty mac thread.

Can report these fuckers?
>>
>>57095951
No reason to hate on this computer. It's reasonably priced now and has been for the past 2-3 years. Appreciation for OS notwithstanding; it runs everything basically flawlessly.
>>
>>57095949
clitmouse a shit; touchpad sublime
>>
>>57095974
I don't give a fuck about the computer you nigger there's like 5 mac threads.
>>
>>57095988
fight me irl, I'll fucking wrek u cunt
>>
>>57095997
Are you going to fucking cry about it? So what? So who gives a fuck if every thread is a mac thread? If it's the best piece of technology then why wouldn't it dominate a technology forum? You fucking autistic piece of trash.
>>
>>57095786
>>magnetic charger cable
those are shit.

no load coil an minimal strain relief, so they constantly break.
at least it's not magsafe2, which doesn't even keep plugged in and isn't L-shaped anymore, so it's constantly strained but has almost no strain relief.

http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/07/why-apples-power-cords-keep-breaking/325284/
>>
>>57096038

Because it's not the best. Any **20 series ThinkPad is a better value.
>>
>>57096072
Their build quality is a flaw, for sure. But, their ubiquity and versatility outweigh this. A replacement charger is cheap and easy to find. The L shape is amazingly convenient. It's a wonder no other laptop has anything like it.
>>
>>57096080
A T420 of similar spec is like, what, $150 cheaper? Is it worth it for inferior battery life, screen, trackpack? This is a laptop we're talking here.
>>
>>57096106

A w520 has a better screen, faster processor, higher threshold for ram, and I 'd save 200 dollars.

The 9 cell lasts 5 hours. That's enough for me.
>>
>>57096106

Also, I've worked on a MacBook (though not a mbp) from that era and they're a pain in the ass. A thousand screws, all of varying sizes. No way to easily access components, plastic clips that break if you look at them wrong. You can just tell that they weren't made to be worked on.

>>57096117
>Ridiculously thick
>Ages poorly due to inferior plastic construction

Oh but it has VGA-out and a physical WLAN switch, thank the lord! Also. Track. Pad. Can't rebut that it is the best, and has been the best with literally dozens of manufacturers trying and failing to replicate. Trackpads on Thinkpads fucking suck. And the clit is OK, I do prefer it to a typical shit trackpad on a Windows PC, but the Apple Macbook Pro 128GB really has the best trackpad.
>>
>>57096145
Pros are different. You obviously have no experience and so you probably shouldn't have even commented at all.
>>
>>57096193
you never acknowledged the fact that it's just not cost effective to actually replace parts in a broken macbook
>>
I have one of these and I enjoyed it before the battery randomly took a shit.

Now I have a t430 and I'm enjoying it even more than the macbook.

The 13" from 2010-2012 has a 1280x800 display
and is literally heavy as fuck.

everything is solid though.
>>
>>57095735
>throttling overheating pile of shit
>2 hour battery in any task besides idling
>eye cancer mirror gloss screen
>""""""""""""""perfect"""""""""""
>>
>>57095735
Had a 17" one for a while in sophomore year that was OK. My dad found my porn on it using whatever the mac equivalent of windirstat is and then proceeded to smash it over his knee.

It was a gift from grandma so at least i didnt lose $2k on it of summer job money at least.
>>
>>57096185

>oh no, how can my little girl hands handle a laptop that is a quarter inch thicker?!?!

It's got a magnesium roll cage. It ages just fine, the shiny metal that you cherish so much shows every single ding and scratch.

>muh trackpad

Track pads are only on there as a courtesy to normies. Take an hour and learn how to use the pointing stick.

>>57096193

>your opinion is different than mine so stop talking, I love my "Apple MacBook Pro 128gb" and anyone who points out a flaw is just stoopid
>>
>>57096232
not that his macbook would ever get a ding and scratch as he would protect his fashion statement with his life
>>
>>57096210
It is within reason, not much more than any other laptop. The drives are all replaceable. RAM is replaceable. Batteries are replaceable and cheap. Parts are as common and relatively inexpensive. as what you would do with a Thinkpad.
>>
>>57096240

They're a pain in the ass to work on. Everything Apple is. It's all marketed as a disposable fashion accessory to vain morons with more money than sense. People like you are the reason we avoid these discussions.
>>
>>57096232
>magnesium roll cage
Damn I didn't know that computer has a roll cage. Must come in handy when you're off-road computing. Sorry, looks like a piece of shit hand-me-down computer from your inbred uncle.
>Take an hour and learn how to use the pointing stick.
Yeah rubbing a little red rubber knob is as easy as sliding my finger across a soft piece of glass. Excuse me, sir. Can I scroll up and down a page with the little red nub? Can I zoom into a photo? Can I tell it to go back a page in Firefox, or go a desktop space over to the right? No. It can't.
>>
>>57096240
>Parts are as common and relatively inexpensive

mid-2012 i7 logic board: $557
mid-2012 15" display assembly: $258

thinkpad t420 1600x900 screen: $55
thinkpad t420 motherboard (which you can drop any intel CPU from that generation into): $26.99

the macbook pro is neither reasonable nor comparable.
>>
No point if I'm already running osx on my T430
>>
>>57096267
Inflated prices for the Mac. Undervalued prices for the Thinkpad. Try harder, you literal human bucket of waste?

The roll cage will come in handy while your watching cuck porn and getting railed by your wife's bull from behind.

>the computer looks like

Piss off. It's supposed to be functional, not a fashion accessory.

>pointing stick

It's easier and faster than a track pad. You don't have to move your hands off homerow everytime you want to move the cursor. The w520 has hardware buttons for page up, down, back and forward. Why the fuck would I have to zoom in when my screen is FHD+?

Insufferable cunts like you are the reason nobody takes Apple seriously on this board.
>>
>>57096297
You mean you have no argument. Just wanted to clarify in a few words what you really mean. Whatever computer you are so hopelessly staring into right now is comprehensively trash compared to a Macbook Pro from this era. Go fuck yourself.
>>
>>57096302
Thinkpads have flex and give, thus don't have this problem.

"Sorry, I'll need a bigger bag than that to carry my laptop, mate. Yeah, it's a IBM Thinkpad, but really Lenovo but you get the idea. Sure it's massive and cumbersome, but you wouldn't believe how much this anime board loves it. And, I saved $183 on this versus a Macbook. Oh... yeah, that tote will hold it. I'll wrap it in a towel."
>>
>>57096302
Polycarbonate scratches, bends, and deforms, but will return to its original shape instantly, whereas your sodacanbook crumples like the trash it is.
>>
i've been using a thinkpad for four years and i'm moving to the MBP whenever the next iteration comes out, so within the next month or so.

While my thinkpad is great the MBP is about the same price as an X1 Carbon here (Australia) and I want to give OSX a try, pretty much out of curiosity.

Theres nothing necessarily bad with either, and anyone saying otherwise probably has autism or something
>>
>>57096337

It's a quarter inch thicker and no more than a pound heavier. You should probably start working out if a pound makes that big of a difference, you limp wristed cunt.
>>
>>57096343
>probably has autism or something
Finally someone fucking gets it. Hurrah comrade!! We are within the crusade together. It is beyond chomprehsnesion for such a thing.

>No shit, bro! A W520?

>Bro that's sick
>Lmoa bro i know

>>
>>57096302
I mean, it isn't really an exaggeration.

my 2011 mbp has a dent in the lid and if you touch it while the screen is on it causes the lcd to bubble up.

The dents don't come out nicely or easily either. I took a rubber mallet to the lid casing trying to flatten it back out with no luck.
>>

>>
>>57096431

The middle button when held down and combined with the pointing stick controls the scroll up and down feature. Also ThinkPads have designated hardware buttons that do the same as well as back and forward buttons.

It's becoming abundantly obvious that you're just an assblasted teenager who expected everyone to validate your purchase of a shit computer that must have taken three summers of grass mowing to pay for.
>>
>>57096408
it's a completely dead ecosystem primarily experienced through the Apple controlled app store. sure you can occasionally pull down a 3rd party dmg from a website, but more often than not the developer abandoned their program after the second time Apple broke backwards compatibility from one major release to the next. programs for windows XP still run just fine in windows 10? why is an app written for ML incompatible with yosemite? is apple that fundamentally inept?

apple doesn't want you installing apps from anywhere but the app store, i guarantee you that will be completely locked down eventually.
>>
>>57096431
And if you were a normal fucking human, and not a disgusting pile of trash, maybe you'd fact check yourself before spewing inane bullshit.

You see, the trackpoint has all the same functionality as a mouse with a scroll wheel. I can hold the middle button and push the trackpoint around to scroll in whatever direction, ctrl+middle button to zoom, tap middle button to open links in new tabs or close tabs like any other middle button, and what have you.
I can set up mouse gestures in firefox to make it go back or forward a page if I so desire, though my laptop has a nice pair of dedicated buttons for this exact purpose, meaning it effectively has a proper 5-button mouse built right into it.

MacFan here.
Northwest San Francisco.

You're a fool if you think MacFans aren't armed. Shit man a lot of us served. Those of us who haven't have family who have, family in law enforcement, and so on.

I've hunted and gutted ThinkPads. I've slaughtered Dell in potato fields. I've fought. I've wrestled. I used to skate and I've broken so many bones I've literally lost count and walked half of them off.

And there's nothing special or exceptional about me.

You're a fool if you don't think MacFans are formidable. For every straw man pic you have of a faggy liberal I have a pic of a fat virgin beta orbiter with a weak stance and a ThinkPad who still flinches when he types.

I don't presume that the Thinkpad is not formidable. I grew up surrounded by the ThinkPads before they became the ThinkPad. I know what they can do. I've hacked with them.

But that's what's funny about these neolibertarian pseudohackers. They assume they're the toughest guys in the world and everyone else is soft. That's why they keep losing wars.

The Thinkpad loses. Every time they flex. MacFans are ruthless when cornered. We burned South by Southwest to the ground and used rape as a weapon of mass psychological operation, disrupted troops and marched right up to Zuckerbergs front door. We designed a hack that destroyed entire cities, then we upgraded it. We invented remote control Internet and remote control keyboards..

Don't fuck with us. The Thinkpads will rise again? Fine. We'll put em down again..
