You might as well just ask where people live what the hell?

PAL.

50hz is retarded.

Literally no monitor/tv uses that retarded refresh rate.

tl;dr NTSC master race

My country uses SECAM although I personally do not watch TV.

>>
>>57095460
i live in a PAL country, and only found that out relatively recently as well (relative to how many movies i've watched on dvd/vhs, naturally all PAL)

it's not noticable, if you put them side to side perhaps, but i nor anyone i know have ever noticed that things were sped up

around the same time, i also found out NTSC releases of 24fps content use 3:2 pulldown, adding horrible judder

i'll take unnoticable speedup over 3:2 pulldown any day
>>
>>57095518
>it's not noticable, if you put them side to side perhaps, but i nor anyone i know have ever noticed that things were sped up
PAL is 20% higher res than NTSC, you must be blind.
also if not pitch-corrected, all those actors will sound very different.
>>
>>57095727
>PAL is 20% higher res than NTSC, you must be blind.
i'm commenting only about the speed difference

>also if not pitch-corrected, all those actors will sound very different.
yes, probably, but the speedup is not so great that one can tell it's wrong without something to compare it to
>>
>>57095727
i remember in my super autistic DVD ripping days, i used to source the video from the PAL encodes as a lot of what I was encoding had higher quality transfers + DVD9 encodes from that region, so i'd take the video and do some sweet anamorphic 1024x576 DVDRips and then slow down the video + audio using some MKV flags to change the framerate of the content (if it was in fact just sped up).
>>
>>57095789
far easier to slow 25fps video to 24/1.001 than to fuck around trying to fix telecined ntsc video
>>
>>57095166
Ntsc console games run faster because as much as you buy the 24fps hype train, all 2d consoles are tied refresh rate therefore 60fps ntsc 56ish pal
>>
>>57095847
pal is 50Hz

i find 50fps to be reasonably smooth, and later consoles (ps2+) had many games where you could pick pal or ntsc upon startup, pal60 is master race though if supported (pal res + 60Hz)

The pitch is corrected though, but the speedup is very noticeable if you're not a casual shitter. Honestly go watch a movie which contains a song that you know. If you don't notice the speedup you must be one of those people who plays games at 20 fps and sees no problem with it.
>>
>>57094969

>>
>>57096457
they did get into the habit of pitch correcting eventually, but there are PAL discs out there that seriously did not pitch correct anything. Like the entire run of Seinfeld on DVD for the PAL regions is pitched up. It's horrific.
>>
>>57094969
PAL was better.

Does it even matter anymore?
>>
>pal
>ntsc
>secam
This is all irrelevant these days everywhere except for the former NTSC region.

Like XBOX/Wii/etc all run native 60Hz regardless where you live. Films on Blu-ray are typically the native content refresh rate in Europe-based areas (25/24/50/60Hz). Television broadcasts are usually 50Hz.

For some reason in America, many televisions are still made which today won't touch 50/25Hz content. This means that programmes made to these framerates will need to be converted, adding interpolation noise or jitter.

>>57095188
This is wrong.
Almost every television ever made for the European market will switch between 60/50/24 depending on the input.
When the CRT was popular, it would even change it's resolution depending on the content to ensure native resolution (625 line for PAL/SÉCAM and 525 line for NTSC).

Actual film cinema should be slowed down to exact 24fps. 24000/1001 is an intermediate when doing conversion between 24fps and 29.97 though nowadays non cinema digital cameras have 24000/1001 rather than pure 24fps to partially skip conversion.

Most PAL television is half mains sync @ 25Hz
More or less lossless why to convert formats.

Unless you're into retro stuff, NTSC and PAL haven't been relevant for years. What exactly is the point of this thread?

That's proof that we're european right there my man

I remember people talk about PAL and NTSC back when DVDs and televisions were a thing. How are they relevant today? If these things still .. matter somehow then I guess I am using whatever I get when I open qbittorrent and search for a movie title and open that in vlc and view it. I haven't had a television or DVD player in 10+ years.

>pal60 is master race though if supported (pal res + 60Hz)
That's not true actually, it still runs at NTSC resolution, it simply uses PAL colour encoding which is vastly superior.
