It works alright. I just can't help thinking how much the watch would be improved if it had lugs more like the skx or turtle.

Have you tried just not responding to the trolls? I kind of just creates drama. It's not like he/they do it to other tripfags to nearly the same extent.

>>
>>57081153
Well I can't tell from the picture, does the bracelet slope down at a greater angle than the lugs? That can create a more smooth looking transition.

Also, the drama can sometimes summon some form of moderation to the thread. Which can help clean it up.

Posting the absolutely fucking based Moon watch. My watch. My nigger...

NB, It's a beautiful classic, but be warned, it's useless for timing lapdances. Those hands become invisible in strip clubs.
>>
>>57081209
It's got lume on the second hand. And that second hand is probably only going to make a trip or two around given the fact that they play really short songs generally.

Unless you can somehow get the DJ to play 'Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' for your lap dance.
>>
>>57081220
Yeah, the lume on all the hands is good, but something about this watch in nightclubs makes all the hands disappear :-)

And it was an hour long dance. Fucking right cutey too. But that's a habit I shook years ago - basically a takeaway wank. Very frustrating.

This watch is a demi-God though. Mine's currently in for servicing, can't wait to get it back.

Thanks anon, I'm a little bit in love now.
Just checked eBay - a bit outside what I want to pay. I have a nice, tidy Seamaster as well as the Moon watch but it doesn't have the dive timer.

I always thought if I got an actual dive watch I'd just go with a Rolex because stone cold classic. But these really turned my head.

Did Seiko pioneer this design? If they did Rolex can suck it, and I might home in on one of these one day...

62MAS Was really a Seiko design thru and thru. The Submariner, Seamaster and Fifty fathoms all really had a different look about them and had their own things going on.

I really am just throwing this out there -- but as far as I've seen, I don't think there was a watch before the 62MAS that used a rotating diver's bezel and a date window. And many dive watches with date windows that came after didn't have an applied frame like the 62MAS. Like the Seamaster 120, which was the first Seamaster with a date window that came out 1 year after the 62MAS.

State of the collection, less the Tutima Flieger GMT being serviced. I think 6 watches might be a little much. Which one should I sell?
>>
>>57081581
It's lovely, servicing looks kind of impossible tho.
Submariner came out ten years earlier, not sure if it had the rotating bezel.
For me it's kinda like; who cracked the look, cos everyone after that is just copying it.

I think a Submariner is a better choice for vintage, because I presume Rolex aftermarket is leagues ahead?

It is a lovely watch though...

All of them, and buy something iconic that cognoscenti will recognise on sight. Just my 2 cents.

It did, but submariner date model didn't become a thing until 2008.

I'm not sure how it is in Japan, but for us on the outside, it's probably going to be much easier with the Rolex.

If it's purely on the decision to reduce the amount of watches, i'd go for either the fortis or the flieger, as these are somewhat the same model.

Not a fan of the Sinn on the left, but it's your largest model, so keep it. Nice collection.

Dial is in good shape and the movement was serviced at some point. Case lines are clean and even if they were buffed/polished they were done well enough.

But no idea when it was serviced, and the caseback was badly refinished. Crystal needs to be replaced. Buy cheap if you're willing to get it properly worked on.

The first thing I will do with a watch that old is giving it to someone to service it. I really like the design and the prospect of getting a cal.6218A is interesting.

It would be my first watch for a long time actually, I stopped wearing them when I started studying years ago. Lets see how high the price gets, otherwise Ill just settle for a Seiko 5 I guess.

It'll go from 110 to 185$ depending on how many people are interested in it.

Which is an okay price for a 6218, since they usually go for the 200$ range. A brand new crystal for this specific model will cost 15$. Servicing is up to where you send it, and that assuming you're sending to a watchmaker who has at least more than two and half brain cells.

The 62XX cal movements are very reliable and have a VERY present rotor that pretty neat to feel, and the only real disadvantage is that the day display is only semi quicksettable.

Today I'm wearing my vintage 1980 Seiko 5. It's got a comfy domed acrylic crystal and looks great on a navy blue perlon.

Even tho I would love having it I can get a Seiko 5 and a Burei with Seiko NH35 movement in neat condition for about 140$ together, which would fit more outfits and are decent watches themselves.

Lets just hope it wont go up much more, currently I am the highest bidder.

Because 95% of the watchmaking industry and watch buying public stopped giving the slightest fuck about the practical engineering of mechanical watch movements in 1975.

This is why there has been little to no substantive improvement in the accuracy, shock resistance, ease of regulation, correcting of design flaws (like hand winding on the ETA 2824-2), or lengthening of service intervals based on materials engineering.

Modern mechanical watchmaking is about manufacturing perceived prestige based on marketing and on soaking up watchmaking labour on decoration or gimmicks, with zero fucks whatsoever given by anyone barring Rolex about improving the practical engineering of volume produced mechanical movements.
>>
>>57084073
Because they are accurate movements.

With the popularisation of automatic movements hand winding isn't really necessary. But even if you should handwind, keeping the watch in good condition with regular servicing should result in no more damage than any other movement being hand wound (Should it have the feature anyway)

It looks really good and is really cheap. But I worry that it will fall apart after a month or two of everyday carry.

I've been wishing for a new everyday watch. I own an Ingersoll but it's too thick to be practically carried. Also it's a little bit too indiscrete for my tastes, which I guess goes for this one too but it's not as expensive.

I inherited an old Citizen Watch Titanium, which was sleek and plain, which I like, but it soon broke down on me. Looking for a new one now and the girlfriend pointed this one out.

Unless it's actually marked to be real gold, or even gold plated i seriously doubt it even has any marking. Which means is just a shiny coating that made to look like gold, plated onto a basemetal.

I'd like to say brass or SS, but counting on when it was (via the quality of Chinese products of that time) it's like some kind of unknown junk alloy.

It certainly looks to be a simple quartz chronograph movement that isn't worth much if at all. And as >>57086997 said, the chinks have been churning their sweatshop products since the early 80's.

Part of that post was meant to be playful, because of the post I was replying to.

But besides being just Rolex copies, and their use of fake-aged lume, and not being especially good value for their price, they're not /that/ bad.

I just would never wear one.

>>
>>57089320
i guess its not a real masonic symbol, just what it made me think of right away.

an ETA movement means its not in-house/manufacture, they made the case and the dial. basically it means that the movement/mechanics behind the dial are uninteresting.
>>
>>57089354
No. Fuck off.
>>
>>57089389
Shit I fucked up that sentence entirely I was going to say "since when are sextants masonic" but then I remembered that they totally are and forgot to delete the last part of the sentence.

ETA isn't in-house, but overall it's a Swiss company and that counts for something, right? As for how interesting the mechanic behind the movement is, I'm not all that concerned about that. I just want a nice looking automatic movement watch until I can afford something better.
>>

So many sites making me to login to see a price. Though, it looks better than the Thickodate and the price isn't too bad.

Surprisingly enough this one is probably not a bad deal, sure it's another rather thick dress watch powered by a ETA 2824 derivative but it looks alright.
>>
>>57089432
well then go ahead i guess, nothing wrong with ETA if you dont care.
btw just that it swiss (or says so on the dial) doesnt mean anything quality wise.

Pull the crown out to the third position (the one you use to set the hour and minute hands) and try pressing the start/stop and reset pushers while its in that position. This should allow you to change the "reset" position of the chronograph hour and minute hands. If that doesn't work, try the same thing with the crown in the second position (date quickset position).
>>
>>57092774
Nah not really, it'll just speed up the date change process and go over to the next date as if time itself was faster. My thickodate's day/date changes exactly at midnight whether it gets there by itself or I'm handwinding it

>>57092774
Nothing wrong with winding while the date is changing. The classic wisdom is to not use the quickset while the date is changing. This is a good idea, as it can potentially damage different parts of the date mechanism. However, most decent movements make it impossible to damage anything this way, but its still a good idea to avoid it.

It doesn't scream autism, but it screams cheap plastic. You could do much worse, but you could also do a lot better than that. I know life as a college student isn't the most lavish experience, but if you could spare anywhere between fifty bucks up to two hundred you'd get something a lot nicer.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Damasko are nice. The black coating is good and things like the offset day and date show that they care about details. I'd say go for it.
Also, try to get a nato with black hardware.

Hey guys, is a movement with hack and handwind functions that much superior to one without?

I'm trying to decide between basically these 5 Orient models, and while the Bambino V2 1st Gen is my favorite because of its gold/black color palette, it has only a 48743 movement, while the new V2 2nd Gen has a F6722 movement (with hack/handwind), but it no longer has the black/gold palette.

Basically:

Bambino V2 G1
+Black dial with golden case and markers
+Looks fucking amazing
+Domed vintage-style glass
+Charming roman numbers
-48743 Movement (No hack, no handwind)
-Mineral glass
-Closed heart, closed back

Bambino V2 G2
+F6722 Movement (hack & handwind)
+Charming roman numbers
-Black dial only available with silver case and markers
+/- I could get used to the cream dial with brass markers, but it's not my favorite
-Why the fuck did you have to take black/gold away fucking Orient fuck
-Mineral glass
-Closed heart, closed back

Bambino V1 G2
+F6722 Movement (hack & handwind)
+Black dial with golden crown and accents
-Less elaborate dial
-White elements in dial don't fit as nicely as in V2s uniform color palette
-Date window has a fucking white box around it
-No charming roman numbers

Eminence
+Sapphire glass
+Open heart and back
+Black dial with golden case and markers
-48D40 Movement (No hack, no handwind)
-Not as pretty as the Bambino V2
-Straight, rectangular markers not as good-looking as triangles or roman numbers
-No charming roman numbers

To me hacking is essential, because it bothers me that my watch could run out of power if I haven't shaken it enough right after wearing it.
Hacking is nice but not that important imo.
that's why entry level Citizen/Miyota movements > entry level Seiko & Orient movements
>>
>>57096753
looks like shit. Why would you do that?
>>
>>57096851
>it bothers me that my watch could run out of power if I haven't shaken it enough right after wearing it.
That does sound like it could grow to be very annoying.

Do you know any watches with entry level Citizen/Miyota movements with the same visual style as the ones I posted? I'm still open to options, and these actually are under my maximum budget, so I could splurge a little more if needed.

Swiss movements are welcome too, although I've heard a bad story or two about entry level ETAs.

The only requirement is that I want a vintage look. Gold/black Bambino V2 was the closest to what I want that I've seen so far, for reference.
>>
>>57096813
>Hey guys, is a movement with hack and handwind functions that much superior to one without?
You may like those features, but no, there's nothing that makes it superior really.

Keep in mind, fake gold or gold plated watches can have their gold come off, and they will look bad when they do that. I'm not sure how well those Bambinos hold up, but personally I just never bother with that kinda stuff.
>>
>>57096813
>Hey guys, is a movement with hack and handwind functions that much superior to one without?
Those movements aren't going to be that accurate anyway, so I don't expect to be able to tell time by the second. So to me hacking isn't that useful. I use the seconds hand as a function indicator or timer only.
Handwinding is nice to have if you have several watches. If it's your only, daily watch, then it's not that essential.
>>
>>57096892
Oh, and I also like metal link straps more than leather ones in general, but the Bambino probably looks better in leather than it would with a metal strap.

>>57096902
I just like the gold look. I would buy a solid gold one if I could afford it right now, but I can't. Maybe in a few years, after I graduate.
>>
Who even needs a watch anymore
Hahaha nigga just use ur iphone
>>
>>57096938
if you said apple watch or fitbit you would have a point. being able to check the time without taking my phone out of my pocket is really convenient.
>>
>>57096920
Do you have to pick it up in the morning and shake it like you're trying to make a cocktail so it keeps working?
>>
>>57096963
I usually just put it on when leaving home and proceed to set the time when I arrive at work.
>>
>>57096963
They have a 40 hour power reserve and use the Seiko winding system, which is very efficient.

The only time you might want to shake it is if you've let it fully wind down and are putting it back on. But generally if you put it on first thing in the morning it would be wound up enough to set and forget by the time you're ready to get in the car.

Also, for anyone new who doesn't know about magic lever:

http://www.seiko-cleanenergy.com/watches/mechanical-1.html
(magic lever is on this page, you can click "see the magic lever at work" for a little animation.)

Magic lever was patented by seiko in the 50s and allowed the oscillating weight to wind the watch regardless of moving clockwise or counter-clockwise.
>>
>>57096978
>>57096985
>>57097049
I see, thanks.
>>
>>57097049
Do you know what methods other makers use to wind both ways?
>>
>>57097080
Well, magic lever patent is expired. So one way is to just make a magic lever. So Swiss makers like TAG which have adopted base Seiko movements TC87 use a regular Seiko magic lever, while other makers use something like it.

For example, Swiss ETA movements, 2824 and other biderctional movements uses another wheel, a reverse wheel. Other ETA movements like 7750 only wind in one direction, not two.

Other manufacturers, with in house movements, may have more novel or complex winding methods. like IWC pellaton
>>
>>57096851
Fuck I wanted to say manual winding instead of hacking at the beginning.
Hope you got my point anyway.
>>
>>57097172
Interesting. The magic lever seems like a more elegant solution than a reversing wheel.

Or this, from cheapestnatostraps:

I forgot to mention that shots on the watch shop websites always look like shit which is why I look for user-made photos on google images or watch forums, images that actually sell the watch on its appearance, like mine. I think they purposefully understate them to lower expectations.

Unless you're going for a beige/olive or any other such vintage-looking color, I don't think it's gonna work. That blue, patterned NATO is too fresh and modern for the look of the watch, it's gonna contrast very heavily and I don't think it'll do that in a good way.

Unless you're going for the "I own a sailboat" look with something like a pale blue button-down short-sleeved shirt, khaki shorts and brown leather loafers/boat shoes. That could work.

Though i'm wondering, for an SKX with perfect aligment and a super oyster bracelet, would 210$ shipped be too much?
