Name one good thing about Windows 8.
>>
no fucking settings app
>>
there's a nice big clock on the locked screen

>Name one good thing about Windows 8.
Touch and digitizer support is fantastic when compared to win 7.
>>
>>57080426
Now that Windows 10 is out, nothing.
>>
It's slightly faster than windows 7 in day-to-day operation
>>
>>57080426
Has better performance than Windows 7
Aero's gone
No more Fisher-Price rounded corners
>>
Do you guys think Francine Park is a whore? And if so, why??
>>

>better performance than 7

false.
>>
>>57080587
I mean, I tested it myself, but sure- whatever you say
>>
>>57080426

I'm using Windows 10. If I decided I was going to tell Windows 10 to go fuck itself over their ridiculous updating policies, staying on Windows 8.1 would be a way better choice than 7. Add a Start menu addon and it works just like 7, only with way better performance, way less memory usage, way less disk usage, and a longer support life. And fucked up as this sounds, I actually had a much easier time running late 1990s games on 8.1 than I did on 7.

Windows 8 was massively underrated.
>>
>>57080426
It's not windows 10
>>
>>57080587
My evidence may just be anecdotal but I can say there was a noticeable difference between the two. Go ahead though, keep mindlessly clinging to Windows 7. See if I care.
>>
Great big pretty tiles for Tardo.
>>
>>57080587
mate, hybrid booting helps the cold boot time a lot. The whole UI is smoother and less plastic glass looking as well, 7 is the new XP. Only autists cling to it and it's security flaws

>Native ISO mounting
>Better task manager
>Better multi-monitor support than 7
>Faster boot times with Fast Boot if you're into that sort of thing
>Slightly better frame rate personally
As much as I like 7, I don't think I'd ever go back to it on my main desktop. I like Windows 10 LTSB too, but I still find myself going back to 8.1.

never claimed 8 was any better, or any windows for that matter. Win 8.1 (For muh vidya and office) and Ubantoo 16.04.1 (for comfy browsing and programming) dualboot masterrace

It's not Windows 10.

quicker and just works
will be staying on it for as long as possible

that was the biggest for me. My desktop is still 7 and I tried installing an office iso. Double clicked the file and was like "wtf?" When it tried to get me to burn it to a disc... Otherwise, there's nothing I like about it over 7(and why everything except that desktop runs 10)

basically this
>functional control panel rather than half in settings app, half in legacy control panel
>8.1 has a start button. the full screen thing is fine, i don't understand why this was so unpopular at the time
>calculator and other "core" system programs are proper win32 applications rather than >muh apps so don't break all the time
>supports powrshell 5 which is the same as win10
>possibly slightly less botnet than win10. i have a lot of the nonsense disabled with group policies and/or blocked at the firewall anyway though for when i do have to use windoze
>actually honours windows update group policies and restarts to complete updates when you fucking tell it to rather than at random

There was nothing at all wrong with vista except it was ahead of the hardware at the time. People ran it on the same machine they got when win98 came out and cried about how slow it was.

Anyone using a modern computer at the time, vista ran just fine
>>
>>57081006
That's my point. Vista's a fine OS as long as you run it on the proper hardware.

I miss 8. best windows to date. Faster than 7 and personally i never had a single bsod.

I love when people cant come up with a reason for hating 8 since they never used it, so they claim it was slow. Facepalm every time. Then the same people praise W10.

Once you install Classic Shell it becomes the best version of Windows.
>>
>>57080976
it wasn't though. it had a horrendous launch that was so well publicized that everyone in tech shunned it afterwards in favor of xp and that was that. after sp1 it was perfectly fine provided you weren't trying to run it on a machine with low ram. it took xp 3 service packs before it wasn't shit.
>>
>>57081134
I never said that you should be using Vista, you fucking moron. I was simply saying that Vista WAS not shit. Christ you're one of the biggest dumbasses I've encountered on the Internet.
>>
>>57081157
calm down, pajeet. now you are aware of the facts, perhaps you'll revise your opinions and stop shilling a 9 year old operating system.
>>
>>57081186
Fuck off, shitposter
>>
>>57080426
The only thing that bugs the shit out of me is when you boot up your PC, even though you booted up in like 1 minute and 30 seconds to the desktop you can't really load any program since it will take forever to load.

On Windows 7 I tested. it would take 10+ seconds longer but I was able to load any program instantly after desktop loads up fully.

The fuck causes that anyway?

I actually got a touchscreen laptop for $250 or so two years ago. Windows 8 works great with a touchscreen. I do like the squares and organization.
>>
>>57081260
So using that tweak causes it then. Damn it I never thought that would be the reason why.
>>
8.1 is the perfect middle ground between 7 and 10. 7 is getting on in age and even looks dated these days. 10 is being stripped of what little customisation it did have and is being dumbed down by the day. I'm also not comfortable with using what is basically a perpetual beta.

Compared to 7:
>faster filesystem
>iso and zip support on filesystem
>improved file explorer
>improved high dpi scaling
>improved search
>hybrid boot
>better driver support

Compared to 10:
>maybe less botnet
>less bloat out of the box
>>

>vista and 8.1
>ever popular

i cant even comprehend how retarded that was
>>
>>57081471
compared to 10

no cortana
no forced updates for home users
being able to pick and choose which updates to install
>>
>>57080426
Gets to Desktop in 7 seconds from pushing the power button.
>>
compared to 7:
>fast startup
>better file explorer
>drag and drop files into address bar to move
>iso mounting
>much better task manager (especially startup tab)
>setting synchronization
>better search

compared to 10:
>working start (menu)
>no forces updates
>was much more stable and less buggy
>no cortana
>no edge
>>

If you mean 8.1, there is a lot of.
If 8, idk.
>>
>>57080426
How is this even a challenge?
Compared to 7:
>native iso mounting
>better task manager
>better at copying files
>faster startup

Compared to 10:
>much less botnet
>botnet is actually removeable
>user has actual control over his PC
>no cortana
>no forced updates
>no UWP
>no ads
>(much) better backwards compatability
>Solitaire works w/o a subscription
>basically fuck windows 10

Well good job, you made me check.
And no, at least according to smart sniff Windows 8.1 isn't sending any data to any Microsoft servers at all.
