Is it possible to get a decent sounding turntable with a preamp for under £100 or should I give up hope and wait until I'm not on a student budget?
>inb4 you'll have to pay for records anyway
Not at my uni's music library
A good preamp alone will set you back at least ~£200… I got mine from an older friend who worked at an audio dealer. Not sure about if you shopped used.
£100 is TIGHT though desu. If you want nice audio, join a good private music tracker like What.CD or Pedro's and download autist Vinyl/CD rips (I prefer CDs but some people claim 96kHz vinyl is better… you decide)
Don't listen to /ptg/, they are a bunch of retards for the most part.
http://whatinterviewprep.com -- it's quite easy and well worth it if you're into music.

i thought it's best to avoid those and get older, used gear instead
Look for some second hand shit. Or ask family if they have old record players you could have/buy.
