Arch Linux
Don't choose the option to reformat your hard drive when installing operating system.

but whats the point of it then? reinstalling without reformatting will leave corrupt files on HDD

leave Windows
If not, get drivers then and save the files this time, you might need them in future.
whats the best software for checking essential system drivers?

Install windows 8.1.
Use 3DPN and 3DPC for drivers.

Yeah it's called backing your files up.
But if you can't for some reason then make a second partition on your hard drive and move data you want to keep there.

If you updated to Windows 10, this wouldn't have been a problem.

...Redownloading your drivers, then?
For drivers just find out the model of your motherboard and go to their support page.

https://sdi-tool.org/ snappy driver installer

So.....? Everything that would influence the OS would be sent to Windows.old, and have zero impact on your new OS.

I think it's called foresight
it's called making a list of everything you need and downloading it before you reformat
>what are partitions
>what are making backups on a portable storage device
