When is audio/video production on Linux going to get good enough so that I can ditch windows?
Where is the Reason, Ableton, Sony Vegas etc for Linux?

Also when will that cunt Poettering stop fucking things up. Latest version of pulseaudio on mint keeps misbehaving with one of my audio interrfaces and requiring reboot. Why is this man allowed to replace init?

The version of Acid Pro I am using is from 2002.

It STILL does not work in wine.
>>
Why not just get macOS?
You can run your audio and video software natively on a Unix system, and it also has core audio which makes things a lot easier when it comes to using audio hardware with your system.
>>
>>57071599
Get a mac, only a poorfag uses Windows for media production anyways.

Don't use pulseaudio for anything other than normie desktop audio. Have you tried JACK? (Qjackctl is your friend, it's a nice GUI)

Mostly I use a hardware synth + ardour + giada. Softsynths on Linux seem like total bollocks.

I can't really comment though, most of what my band does doesn't involve computers. Even when we use synth we just plug it straight into the keyboard.

Yes, all audio work I've done has used jack. I can use it fine (as you said qjackctl is good) but it the other software (zynaddsubzx, ardour etc) is nowhere near as good as Reason. It's probably 20 years behind featurewise.

Like where is the audio program for Linux where I can do this? Frustrating.

dual boot or run a vm

Not got the time for that.
>>

>>

vm has too high a latency to use with midi controllers.
I do have a dual boot, but it's got to the stage that I never boot Linux any more.

Out of these programs pinned to my startbar, if I could get Reason and Sony Vegas working well enough to use in wine (or native software of a similar standard), I would switch back to Linux.
>>
>>57071913
Nope, video maker here, windows does work as well in terms of efficiency for the hardware when it comes to video editing but it is far more organized for me and you have more control so if something breaks you can easily fix it. Also hardware is cheaper.
Of course osx works as well but usually editors who prefer osx are just normies who are used to final cut and are told by colleagues that "macs just werks"
I think I'll keep using windows for editing, I'm fine and I don't like macs

Bitwig is a pretty good cross-platform DAW from what I've heard.
Also someone on memenews said you can use Blender 3d for video editing kek
>>
>>57073830
I also heard it has a very good interface for NLE now, but no. I won't use it.

It's a bit more low-level but don't PureData and Max/MSP run on linux too?

Non linear editing, the kind of editing we use now video, that one where you have a timeline and just drop videos on it.
Before it was linear, you hade to attach tapes each other
>>

Where's nuendo, cakewalk, reason, studio one, and digital performer?
>>

install clover
install os x
find 1-3 kexts if your config is weird

i'd say easier than some linux distributions, assuming you have the right (or close to right) pc config

not him but, whats wrong with sony vega?
>>

Ah right, didn't know it was called that.

Anyone know a good midi sequencer/piano roll thing for linux? Doesn't have to run soft-synths, recording would be nice but I could do that in another program just as well.

There isn't one. Supposedly Rosegarden, but it crashes every 5 minutes so it's useless.
>>
Bitwig is on Linux which is made by some of the people that worked on Ableton, I haven't tried it yet because JACK and ALSA is a bitch to configure properly

When you stop being a baby duck.

Don't see what that has to do with whether the software is any good.

As long as the tool for the job works well, who cares. Do you have to use the shiny new hammer every year if you're always hitting the nail with your ten year old hammer?

Wasn't implying it was bad, just that it's no longer a sony product
>>

I've used Linux since 2004, have scripted my own software for a long time (muh router botnet etc). I'm no baby duck. But audio/video production on Linux is shit.

Linux music production:
The best thing available is Reaper under Wine. Has its limitations. Install a low latency kernel for best results.

Linux video production:
The best thing available is Lightworks. It's been used in Academy Award winning movie production.

Poettering:
Any part of Linux he's involved with will continue to be a convoluted mess.
>>
>>57074446

This looks pretty good.

Is it open source/free?

How is not having to relearn something retarded?

If you know how it all works in real life, you have no new shit to learn with Reason. I'd rather just get on with making music than learn some new command line bollocks.
>>
Any Linux music makers used the Bristol synth suite? It's tucked away but you can apt-get it.

If someone were to make that all integrated, it could rival reason.
