I can't seem to install anything higher than 10.6 on a A1176 mac mini from 2007. EFI firmware macmini2,1 already, 64Bit T7400 intel CPU 2.16 core 2 duo, 4gb ram. I already tried everything, Nireshi live CD, lion on a second partition, el capitan on other drive and replaced the boot.efi. Help me /g/.
inb4: install gentoo.

Install Menpo
install funtoo

Honestly just install a Linux distro on it. Modern OSX versions will be so slow as to be completely worthless. I run Ubuntu on the exact same model, only bottlenecks for day-to-day use is latency and R/W speed on the HDD, everything else is snappy as hell, even web browsing.

I'm running El Capitan on a C2D iMac right now and it's great.

if it was for myself I would immediately do it but actually I bought it for an older relative already having trouble with windows. She wouldn't the fuck know what to do with ubuntu

Really? I was having problems with 10.6.8, and even my modern Macbook has problems with running Sierra. That's pretty impressive, anon.

Yeah, the only reason I'm upgrading soon is because I realized it's been over half a decade since Intel moved on to the i* series. I'm perfectly content with my current desktop but it's just time to get something more modern.

teach me master.
how would you get el capitan installed on it?
>>57067826
Well mine actually supports El Capitan, so I just installed it like normal. I was just pointing out that we've got rather similar specs so there's no reason El Capitan would be shit on it.

Thread's over, the shitposter found it.

Great meme my friend! Now go tell your mom about it!
>>57067751
How does your modern mac have trouble running sierra?
>>57067657
I recently did this, it was kind of a pain. I can't seem to find the guide that I found, but I remember the installer needed edited to allow it to proceed
I believe it's only possible to get up to 10.7.5

IBM-compatible PCs don't have this problem.
