Honestly just install a Linux distro on it. Modern OSX versions will be so slow as to be completely worthless. I run Ubuntu on the exact same model, only bottlenecks for day-to-day use is latency and R/W speed on the HDD, everything else is snappy as hell, even web browsing.

Yeah, the only reason I'm upgrading soon is because I realized it's been over half a decade since Intel moved on to the i* series. I'm perfectly content with my current desktop but it's just time to get something more modern.
