If you don't actually need it then there's no logical reason behind it. Just buy it if you want it so much.

Is there actually anything bad about iPad Pro other than "lol IOS/Apple is bad" memes? The 12 inch one seems excessive but I'm seriously looking at the 9 inch pro.

I GOT ONE FOR SCHOOL ITS GOOD WITH THE APPLE PENCIL I DONT BUY A EXTRA KEYBOARD I JUST USE ON SCREEN ITS GOOD MAN
>>

If you buy tablets for video viewing, it's not the best due to the 4:3 aspect ratio. iPads are honestly the best tablet you can get in terms of software, usability, and support.

So basically, if you do things like write notes, read manga, search for recipes/cheat codes/whatever, or some very basic productivity then the iPad Pro is just fine for your needs.

Depending on your needs, a Mini would also be fine too.

But if that's the case why not get a way cheaper Android
>>
It's just money you're throwing away.
>>
>>57064994
Android tablets are fine but I've personally never seen an Android tablet that seemed to compare to the iPad.

One of the biggest things I've noticed is bloatware on Android tablets or if you go too cheap, the terrible screens or otherwise unresponsive touch screen. And sometimes pretty bad battery life.

Not to mention, some of the better Android tablets end up being just as expensive as the iPad line.

Ultimately, if you go Android, just keep in mind that unless you got a popular tablet and are willing to flash it with new ROMs, you aren't going to have the latest updates and features you might want. But that's a point that gets spammed on here to death.
>>

>>
>>57065118
Pixel C looks nice but these are one of the tablets that get pushed up towards iPad pricing.

It's a little too late for me anyways, I got my iPad and it's been a great tablet for the almost two years that I've had it. I'm personally not in the market for a new tablet and I know my mom needs one since her tablets keep fucking up on her but she doesn't even want to look at iPads because she fell for the "overpriced" meme, she wouldn't even look at the Pixel C either.

OP, the iPad Pro is fucking fantastic. I have the 12.9" LTE model, with a Smart Keyboard and a Pencil. It's literally the most practical computing device I own. It's like a cellular laptop with a touchscreen, a digitizer, and a camera on par with the one on the iPhone 6S.

I use mine for university. I can count on one hand the sheets of paper I've generated since I got it. It's my laptop, it's all my paper, it's all my textbooks, it's my bookcase, it's ~380 different pencils, and it's a lot more beyond that.

Seriously. It's the fucking best. Not even shilling, just giving good advice.

Depends on whether your have an old, busted laptop or a new one. If you have a shitty laptop, get an iPad Pro 2, it's an excellent shitposting machine and great to read books on. I shitpost at work with my iPad pretty much all day.
>>
>>57064530
By snorting coke off of it.
That's what made ipod touches and iPhones so popular.
Now, if you tried to crush up your buddies concerta on the screen you might have a problem. But good coke, no problem.

Do it, I have a 2012 iPad Air and it just keeps going strong, performance is godly (A7 chip), battery life is legendary and build quality is fucking great, no complains, it just werks while Android tablets just lags.
>>
>>57065567

Not always. Apple's been really pushing the whole "user experience" thing as their primary motivation. They got retina displays and a resolution that's unnecessarily high to you and me. Why would they make them that dense? Text will appear miniscule!

But by instead using it to get more detail out of the image and pushing for vectors to replace bitmaps, and allowing for higher quality images to be displayed on the screen, they made the thing just nicer and more comfy to use in general. And that's what they're going for.

They've been so successful that I honestly can't think of any Android/Windows tablet that even comes close to competing with the iPad. Google's just given up even trying to compete with them in the tablet space and Microsoft is still throwing hybrid devices. Which are better for productivity, sure. But for people who just want to grab a device and comfortably consume internet media on the couch, Apple wins hands down.

Turns out there's more people who want to use something comfortably than learn the ins and outs of how computers work. Surprising nobody.

If you're a visual artist with some disposable income it makes sense to have a solid tablet/pen input capable device. That's really the only situation i can think of. Even then there's cheap options too, but if you have the money and like iOS go ahead, it's solid.

Otherwise, just buy a normal iPad. I never understood why they even introduced the pro as a mass market consumer thing. The screen is unreasonably large for everyday use

After owning a Surface Pro and an Intuos 4 Large for drawing and playing with some of the N-Trig and Wacom ES-based tablets at the microsoft I've realized the iPad Pro 12.9 with the apple pencil is actually better...
>>
I'm thinking about getting a Lenovo Book. Not as a replacement for my pc, but for a lightweight notetaker, newspaper reader and Youtube on the train.

I've always missed being able to write emails on the go, but when I'm home I want more screen real estate than a portable machine.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B12b-KIslM3hbk1UeVNUbGs5TzA/view
This is my TI Architecture/Infrastructure course notebook. My productivity writing has increased a shit ton compared to writing in paper.

Other than that I just use it for music and Netflix, and the "heavy power" is not that impactful, its almost the same experience you'd have with an iPad Mini 8.4 or regular 9.7 inc iPad for media consumption or basic app usage (basically the hardcore specs are only for games and resource intensive games on an iPad is kinda stupid), so don't buy it unless you really care for the pencil aspect, other than that go get a regular 9.7 or mini 8.4.

I still don't quite get why tablets are so popular. They run the same OS as your phone. They are just bigger. They are awkwardly between the phone and laptop.

Instead of making an iPad """Pro""" that doesn't even run any pro programs like photoshop Apple should have made a 2-in-1 Macbook with touchscreen and pen. I mean people went out of their way to turn a Macbook Pro into a tablet so the demand is there. You could run Mac OS and proper software.
>>
"Pro" means at least root access to your UNIX device.
>>
>>57068914
> I never understood why they even introduced the pro as a mass market consumer thing.

charge more for hardware + get extra revenue from customers buying pencils and keyboards.

> The screen is unreasonably large for everyday use

there is a standard size one too.
>>
>>57068953

what software are you using for that?
>>
I have an iPad Air 2 and love it; Apple's tablets are easily the best out there.

That said, I have no idea why you'd get a Pro. Unless you have a very specific use case (like an artist or architect), you're almost surely better off with either a regular tablet or a laptop. Unless you just have the money to blow and really want it, no I don't think it is that easy to rationalize. But, by all means, if you're buying a tablet then definitely buy an iPad.

Notability
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDyu2CtJaZM
Doesn't have incredible ratings, but its just what I need

>Adjustable pencil thickness
>Highlighter mode (basically same as pencil but with transparency)
>Bunch of colors to choose from
>Export PDF or other formats to a bunch of online services (Drive, Dropbox, Box, email, etc)
>Embed audios and pictures on the document
>Nice faux sheet (grid, lines, etc)

You can also use the app without the Apple pencil, but using it its incredible. The "downside" is that it costs like $14 but fuck it I spent $100 on the pencil (to be honest, it should come included, otherwise the 9.7 Pro isn't all that different from the regular 9.7 and the spec bump is not noticeable unless you are doing heavy gaming)

I think you can also open a PDF and write over it.

Just get a surface pro 4 instead
>>
I freelance and needed to build for iOS, so I got an Air 2 and it doubles as a personal use device.

It's kind of strange. I really enjoy using it, but I could never have justified it if I didn't need it for work. I can use it as basically a luxury content consumption device; a 9.7" version of my phone for watching YouTube and shitposting. The browser is excellent (it could replace my desktop for casual, read-only leisure browsing) and there are some apps that are better than either the browser version or any desktop equivalent that I know of. It has a high justwerks factor too.

There are plenty of productivity apps but few that I'd seriously consider using instead of my desktop equivalent. The most useful so far is actually just Notes, which autosyncs with OSX.

The thing I've used it for most is actually as a trackpad and keyboard for my desktop, so I can swivel the screen to face my bed and use the iPad to control it. The world's most expensive remote control.

I would never have spent £300 on this for myself but if you have the money to spare and want a luxury shitposting machine, go ahead. It really is fun to use, and can be handy sometimes. But understand what it is and isn't. Don't treat it as a laptop alternative for taking notes and such... that would be a bad plan.

Also it has convinced me to get an iPhone the next time I need a new phone. So there's that. iOS really is nice.
>>
>>57065058
I have an Xperia Z tablet that's lasted me a few years now. Doesn't really get updates anymore but I'm not missing any features. It's compatible with DualShock3 so I use it to play Pokemon, watch movies on planerides or read manga.
Excellent device, and the screen is great.
>>
>>57069829
Would literally be perfect if they made a Windows version with an Active Digitizer.
>>
>>57064530
Is there any update on the next gen of the pro's? New iPhone's SoC is insane, I wonder how great 4 or 8 of those cores were on an iPad Pro.

>>
>>57064530
I'd really like one over a surface tablet since microsoft a shit, but I can't justify the premium. Even refurbished ones cost 670 bucks.

I'd love to use it for school though. One of my TA's has one and it looks so clean and seamless to use as opposed to Wangblows on a surface tablet.

Pen and Paper for me :( Maybe they will come down a bit when they release a new one.
>>
>>57069364
If Microsoft stops being retarded about how much they cost to change the battery, then we will talk.

But last I checked, they will smack you 300 bucks out of warranty. That should be a crime.
>>
>>57067151
Would be nice, but again, not really in the market plus Nokia seems to be selling it mainly in China and Taiwan.

>>57068612
Don't really have a need for Windows beyond some utilities, gaming, and video editing. And my desktop is just fine for that. So a Windows tablet is not something I'd buy. Not to mention, I got the iPad Mini, I was just talking about the iPad line in general.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but the thin client idea is pretty fucking awesome.

It's what lets me keep my desktop in my apartment but game in 2880x1800p on ultra settings on my rMBP when I'm visiting my parents at home via Steam Streaming.

Or knock my compile times down to seconds when I'm working on a project.

I like the idea, especially with programming, I have one single environment no matter what device I use. It's why I can carry the 12.1 MacBook and still have the power of a 6770K and a GTX 1080.

Yes, this all relies on internet but I got fucking gigabit internet 24/7 when I'm on campus and 20-50mbps LTE connection when I'm not near a WiFi connection.

if you need to convince yourself to buy something, it may be best you don't buy it.

I bought a refurb Air 2 for $400 (After tax) as I didn't thin the minute difference compared to the Pro was worth another $200. I bought it for general computer use around the home and sometimes on the go. It's been great for that.

If that's something you need, or believe will really benefit you, knock yourself out, but don't buy this shit because you need another gadget.
