Chrome puts every tap you open in a sandbox environment where everything is loaded into RAM. Main advantage is stability, security, and of course speed. Only real disadvantage is a lot of RAM will be consumed per webpage (~50-100MB). Though since 8GB RAM sticks are dropping to $30/piece this isn't a problem anymore at least for desktops and most laptops.
