What is your opinion of Free (Libre) Software?
I feel that supporting Free Software is an integral part of building a good future for us and generations to come. Why? The reason is simple. Proprietary ideologies are the enemies of human progress. If we, as a species, cannot contribute to the world, have others view and add to our work, or protect our technological rights, then we will never advance. Transparency is paramount to the betterment of humanity. How can we ensure that the technological advancements such as brain implants or bodily augmentations we receive in the future function as they are supposed to (ie. no corporate backdoors) without reviewing and auditing the code?

FLOSS research and academic projects are wonderful, and should be supported.
FLOSS general purpose software sucks enormously and should be burnt with napalm.

Marie was made with proprietary software.

B-but muh Blender...
I think the least harmful model (while it's still a passive approach that does not solve anything) is separating proprietary based hardware and software from free software.
For example, virtualizing Windows with GPU passthrough should become easier as time goes on.
Keeping a proprietary laptop with the newest hardware iterations while using freedom repsecting hardware and software for personal use.
Avoiding anything with proprietary firmware (this seems futile with the IoT cancer that will flood the market in the next few decades)
I admire Stallman and will always support getting as much free software and hardware into the hands of as many people as possible.
I can not dodge proprietary software however. I will always denounce it and preach the harm behind it but I can not become RMS.
Let's hope that the future can bring us open hardware as our open software continues to grow in popularity and quality. I think tech is moving fast enough that we will soon be able to have free disk firmware, BIOS, and other hardware and critical firmware. It will not be x86. Interest will only grow however as it becomes a more obvious problem. Perhaps it will become easier to toggle proprietary components like a baseband processor as smartphones advance and become modular (there is already a project on this)
The future of privacy and freedom looks grim nonetheless due to a large group of complex problems
Stallman is a fucking retard and is destroying the concept of free software with his political bullshit as we speak.

Care to explain?
OP, that's great and all but I don't care about whether software is libre or not. Can I look at my email? Cool. Can I look at my porn? Great. Can I play my Senran Karuga games? Amazing!
Who cares if Senran Karuga has backdoors, I just want my pantsu shots and my porn and my other vidya and shit.
