Macbook air is shit value whey you can get a celeron netbook or something with decent specs like dell 3000 11 for much cheaper.

The mac is like 0.4kg lighter or something like that, but the xps is like $500-$700 cheaper, and that weight is from the extra ports that the xps has (that the macbook should have).

MacOS is based on Darwin, which is the UNIX based kernel that MacOS uses.

Legally speaking the difference between Linux and UNIX is that Linux doesn´t have rights to UNIX trademark. Linux was written from scratch to become a free UNIX-like OS.

Well if you didn't mean that, you really misspoke with this. Mac OS X is not Unix, though, it just has the certification. The kernel is specifically called out as not being Unix, even, and I don't think anyone can trace the BSD stuff back to SysV.

Macbooks are very solid machines. Very high quality build with a UNIX based OS. If you plan on buying one, I would wait a bit since people speculate the Apple will be introducing new hardware at the end of this month.
