144Hz or 1440p?
Both, but if you really absolutely must choose, then 144Hz if you're a gamer or watch stuff on your monitor, 1440p if anything else.
>what are shit that no one needs but are being viral marketed by monitor makers to sell more monitors to idiots
For fuck's sake.
Bump for OP
I was considering 144Hz WQHD (2560x1440) rather than 4K (3840x2160) so I can get the best of both worlds. Opinions?
I imagine running 144Hz 4K would not result in very smooth performance, even with SLI GTX 1080's.

>or watch stuff
isn't monitor meant to watch stuff?

Both. Games are for children.

It depends on the game
Oh and by the way, only a kid pretending to be an adult would say that. Do you even pay rent, son?
only the uber hardcore 10 hours a day gamers should even think about non ips 144hz
rest of /g/ faggots should definitly go the other way

its like saying books are for losers
or movies are for women
good games are nice and I kinda pity aspies who cant enjoy one
same as I would pity someone who has not read a book, ever

Asus PG279Q or Acer Predator XB271HU. Both have tons of negative reviews about BLB. Is it worth playing the monitor lottery a few times?
2160p60 or 1440p144?
I absolutely dislike non-scaled 1440p and a 1.5 scaling is literally ass.
Wat do? When will 2160p120 be a thing? I thought this year's GPUs do support the new DP standard which enabled this resolution and refresh rate?

When Volta is out. That's when.
The one that actually has a functional use to you, but I think you're a fool if you're buying either just for the sake of upgrading to something new.
Ordinarily 1440p would be the answer for general use. 1080p 144hz up until now have been mostly TN shit panels that couldn't hold a candle to the 1440p IPS panels, which is also true of the current 144hz 1440p models.
For gaming in 1080p, what you want is one of Samsung's new 1080p 144hz VA panels. 3000:1 contrast, no IPS glow.
Usually VAs have lagged behind in response times, especially in the black transitions - but if you read TFT Central's review of the Z271 from earlier today, you'll find that this has been remedied with the new panels. Even better, Samsung has released a teaser video with the C24FG70 creaming the XL2430T in strobing mode.
The XZ271 is 230£ in the UK at the moment, which is just ridiculous for this panel. If that is an indication of the pricing, TNs are dead unless you play CSGO 24/7

If IPS is 10 and TN is 1, where would you put TN
