how viable is a mini-itx for gaming? i've built mid-tower sizes all my life and really wanna try and go for something super small. really love this corsair obsidian case.
just wanna do a basic i5, 8gb ram, SSD, and whatever GPU you guys would recommend for that size that could still hold up for most games. maybe a 1060? also how much more expensive would it be as opposed to if it was just a midtower setup? i have an SSD already and possibly can use the CPU (i5 3570) from my current build.
thanks!

That case is fuck-huge, has compatibility issues with tall GPUs like the MSI ones, has a bigger footprint on the table than an ATX tower, and so is fucking stupid.
Ivy bridge mini-ITX boards will be almost impossible to find unless you buy from china websites.

Gigabyte do a "decent" mini-itx GTX 1060 for relatively cheap, usually about $10-20 less than normal.
As for case, I'd have no clue about Mini-ITX, as I've only ever looked at the tiny as fuck console-tier cases for making people think I'm more autistic than I already am for having a console
EVGA also have a decent priced EVGA Single Fan SC ACS whatever the fuck their naming scheme is GTX 1060, or you could wait for GTX 1050 (and Ti variant), as they'd more than likely have smaller form factor variants since they're cheaper and less powerful
so many mini itx cases are fucking ugly, even worse the only few nice looking ones cost an arm and a fucking leg, such a joke

I don't think 8gb of ram is going to fit in mini-itx. You must go with 4 or better 2.
>>57055741
mini-itx motherboards often support the 2 slots for up to 32gb, or even 16gb, similar to mATX
>>57055756
I don't think it's gonna fit in mini itx.
>>57055761
i think you can only fit an HD 5450 and 2gb ram with mini itx
>>57055741
it has the same size slots as any other motherboard the rest of the components are just smaller. typically a mITX only has 2 slots so you can do up to 16gb with 2 sticks
>>57055782
OP needs 8gb and it's not going to fit in mini itx.
>>57055234
All those mini-itx cases are ugly as fuck, you can't really find anything with oem look to it like Next cube or something like that.

>>57055787
nigger you can add up to 32gb in mini-itx on lga1155 motherboard (if OP is sticking with i5 3570)

The season finale of Halt and Catch Fire had them using a NeXT Cube workstation setup, was pretty cool to see one up and running.
>>57055800
OP needs 8 gb of ram and he said that.
>>57055800
you can only use intel atom and low profile gpu with mini itx, stop spreading misinformation...
OP here. no idea what's going on with all this different info.
i just watched a mini ITX build in that same corsair case that had an i5, 16gb ram, 8gb corsair LP vengeance, and a 780 Ti
>>57055855
But you need 8gb.
>>57055855
for the most part, as long as you don't have some bullshit high profile cpu cooler (for example) then your parts will most-likely fit
>>57055879
yea i figured. probably doing an h100i cause that seems to be most common in this build
