Because of limited free space and VS's horrible opening time, I'm thinking of switching to Sublime Text. So far all suggestion has been "manually or use VS to create a solution file, then compile with package/csc", but Ctrl+F5 is just too comfy to give up. What now, /g/?

Could give Visual Studio Code a shot
:^)

vim or vs code
C# is made to be used with VS, one of the many reasons it sucks, if you are not making money with it, quit while you can, use C++ or Java or PYTHON even instead

Electron on NodeJS on V8. That's something Microsoft would do alright, but no thanks.
>horrible opening time
Literally a non-issue unless the only thing you do is code 5 minute scraps.
>>57044710
>opening time
just tried, it took me literally less than 10 seconds to open a project in vs 2105 community and this is after not launching it for more than 3 months.

>VS's horrible opening time
Only an issue on hardware/storage from last century.

MonoDevelop / Xamarin Studio

I guess that's on my laptop then. Probably due to low free space and RAM. Opening takes like 10 seconds (that's slow to me, I'm spoiled by Sublime Text), and lags occured if I recompile many times.

Free with ReSharper-like features? Sounds good. Have you tried it before?

ssd or good processor?
or both?
i'm interested in upgrading muh hardware

>C# without Visual Studio
>.NET framework without Windows
you're fighting an uphill battle here and I'm not sure why
>>57044710
Seriously, why does it take so long to open Visual Studio 2015? It takes like 20 seconds to open whereas 2012 only takes 2 seconds.
>>57044810
Still better than Atom, honestly. It's stupidly resource intensive as a simple word processor, sure, but for a fully-fledged IDE it's great. Free, too. One of the few good things Microsoft is actually doing right now.

Seriously OP you're making a huge mistake by not running an ssd in your laptop.
>>57046937
I do have an SSD.
>>57047003
Does it suck or something?
It takes exactly 2 seconds for my VS to open.
>>57047026
It takes less than 15 seconds for a full reboot.
>>57047051
Idk what your problem is then m8
>>57044710
C# was designed to be used with Visual Studio. It isn't a nice language to use with just an editor. Same way doing Java outside of something like Eclipse or IntelliJ sucks.
VS takes like 5 seconds to start and about 10-2 seconds for a largeish project. Is that really an issue?
>>57044710
VS opens in 2 seconds for me on an SSD and a 5 year old processor.
