Post all your stupid questions here. I'll start: I want to get my compTIA certificates. How well do the classes prepare you for passing the exams? I want to work in cyber security, so I'm not sure which certs besides the security+. Anyone know the path? Furthermore, I'm getting a degree in http://catalog.cpp.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=8&poid=2049&returnto=1061#PersonalComputerProficiencyRequirement and I'm not sure if that's a good complement to the certificates.

Is it a good idea to buy a new ".blog" domain for my blog, when the sales of this new domain starts this month?
>>
>>57044373
I have a question, OP: why did you create a NEW THREAD if the OLD THREAD is still alive?
>>
>>57044579

What's it called because I searched "stupid" in the search bar and nothing came up. The small question thread is already at 300+ replies.
>>
>>57044775
That's why you should search for /sqt/, not specific names.
>>
>>57044806

Well, that one is 300+ and the bump limit is 300, so this is the new one.

Alright, any tips on how to fix this motherfucker:

No torrent client would seed at all.
I also had problems with making Hamachi and other similar programs work properly. Meh.

I tried messing with Deluge's settings and in the end decided to switch to qbit but nothing. The torrents have peers, so it's not that.

Clients are allowed through the firewall and everything.

Any directions to what it could be are welcomed and appreciated.
>>
>>57044840
Why don't you simply fix it?

Poor CS student here. I would like to know if this might be enough for me? I have access through free Microsoft Azure and Visual Studio through my college - I would like to know if this would suffice. Main languages I intend to specialize on are Java and C++. Pic related.
245.20 US Dollar
I can also find it for cheaper locally, around if not under 200.

>Install Linux
It has Windows 10 for free. Plus, I am not extremely positive how well would Linux work on it since it's a 2-in-1 with touch, touchpad, sensors etc.

>Get a regular notebook
I would, but I would prefer it being a tablet - mostly since I would also like to use it as one as well when not needing the keyboard that much, as well as a eBook reader.

>Those are shit programming languages, do [x] instead
I can't agree or disagree, and frankly it's not the biggest issue. Even if I would do [x], it does not answer the question.

Moving in with my Girlfriend soon.
I have hundreds of GB of porn.

I like it, but I know I'll never get a chance to look at it (nor will I even want to when I'm with her), but I don't know what to do with it...

I don't want to take it with me when we move in together, but I don't want to just delete it.

I'd make a website and upload it somewhere, but my internet is literal trash.

What should I do?
>>
>>57045391
>(nor will I even want to when I'm with her)

That mentality will change. You could always encrypt it or put it on another drive (and encrypt it) and put it in a safety deposit box at a bank, or just in a safe.

A lot of it is nowhere else on the internet.
A lot of it is stuff from old sites that either went down, torrents that are out of service now, or is somewhat illegal.

My internet is trash.

Guys, I want torrent porn but last time I did this I go a cease and desist letter, WITH THE TITLE OF THE PORN IN THE LETTER. I'm okay with getting C&Ds but I'm not okay with it having the title of the porn splayed on it for nosey roommates to snoop up and read. How can I solve this? (getting torrents that have a different name may not always be possible.)

strings= ['a', 'b', 'd', 'g']

why does this print abdg but

strings= ['a', 'b', 'd', 'g']
position = 0
while position < len(strings):
string = strings[position]
print(string, sep="", end="")
position+=1

print infinite aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? what happens in the second?
>>
>>57045864
The indentation notes whether or not the loop is still running.

Position isn't increased until the while loop is completely finished, and it will never finish, in the second one.

In the first one, position is increased, so that problem doesn't arise.
>>
>>57045820
You can just post the torrent here since any torrent client have the option to "first seed" so you will send different pieces to every peer and they send them to the other ones so your internet will not be fucked up and you will save your porn in the fastest time your connection can

Anyways I'm here if you don't know how to do that [email protected]
>>
>>57045933
oh that makes sense, the "position +=1" is outside the loop in the second one therefore it does nothing.

thanks lad

Freeplane. It's a Freemind fork but it's pretty good. I kinda tried some other options but they were either paid or shit. And the most annoying this of all was the fact that I could not move the bubbles freely which annoyed the hell out of me so I sticked with Freeplane.

You can connect the bubbles with whatever line you want (you can customize it pretty much) and you can move it however you want to move it. That's the thing I liked at that software... The only drawback would be the interface which doesn't look too good.
And about how easy is to use ... well, I didn't need to watch tutorials to use it, so guess it's okay. Once you get the hang of if I think you'll like it. Just give it a try.

Brother. Get a laser printer. Sure it's black and white but it's so much cheaper per page.

Also try updating the firmware. HP pushed an update back in March that added that anti-refill, anti-3rd-party crap but didn't have it activate until September. Now they're being sued and released a new update that removes it. Idk if this is just for their office models or your home inkjet too.

Dear /sqt/.

I have a little problem with my new PC - since last week, I suffered random "disconnects" of speakers and GPU weird behaviour on my Windows 7 installation. During the use, my speakers randomly disconnect for a moment (~1s), before connecting again, sometimes few times within few minutes. I tried changing the connector, it didnt help.

Also, my screen sometimes goes black for a moment, following WIndows sound of connecting/disconnecting device, before it goes back. This doesnt happen frequently, so far only three times, but it is still worrying. I updated the drivers for the card (RX480 Nitro+), but today it happened again, after turning monitor back on after inactivity.

Motherboard in question is GA-Z170-HD3P.

I must also add that I transfered my Windows 7 from old PC to new one, with use of sysprep function.

How can I check, what is the source of the problem?

I need a new Antivirus program for Win7. NOD32 was okay except that it randomly freezes 1 CPU core when watching a video at 100% and then the system completely freezes. Also it hammers the fuck out of my SSD with writes in temp files for downloads/web browsing.

Is there an AV that does the following well?

1) SSD friendly
2) good resource usage
3) good detection real time detection range
4) piratable or free?

Noscript and common sense can only get you so far, so I kinda need AV.

Is it worth getting a 1060 3gb card over a refurbed 970? They're the same price but I can't decide.

1060 seems to beat 970 in clock speed by a lot, but 970 has more vram and 256-bit interface vs the 1060's 192-bit.

They do. They're primarily used in video walls.

Most people seem to want a smallish border around their desktop monitors though. It's a border between their work on the computer and the distractions of the outside world. From an engineering standpoint, the extra space around the panel means it's less likely to shatter if it gets bumped or dropped on a corner.

You don't put your VM inside the installer ISO. You wouldn't try to build a PC inside a Fedora install CD.

Create your VM in whatever folder you want it, then select the ISO for the CD drive in your VM.

You go into the settings for the VM, select the CD drive, and change its file to that iso. Now boot the VM from that iso and install as you would a physical PC. When you're done, go back to VM settings and make that iso no longer connected to the VM. Boot it and it should boot from the virtual hard disk where you installed.

>>57049109
Yeah. If you delete the folder where you made the virtual machine and its hard disk, you immediately get all the space back.

It has a fucky partition layout, and Windows doesn't understand partitioned flash drives.

Use Rufus to format it without an iso.

You generally won't get it in the first place if you don't qualify. Like, .gov is only open to government entities. If you can't prove you're a government entity, you don't get one. Similarly with .edu and academic institutions.

Don't use the Nvidia proprietary driver. Your VM does not have an Nvidia GPU. It has a VirtualBox virtual GPU. Use the VirtualBox GPU driver that comes in the VirtualBox Guest Additions package, which you can get through the menus in VirtualBox. (It loads a predefined iso into the VM's CD drive.)

If your physical CPU supports VT-d, you might give PCI passthrough a shot. It will connect the VM to your physical GPU and get just about 100% native performance. It comes with some caveats though: That will disconnect the GPU from the host OS since only one thing can use a PCIe device at a time. I've mostly heard of doing this with KVM, dunno how well it works in VirtualBox if it all. Short of PCI passthrough, you're stuck with the virtual GPU, which performs quite poorly compared to the physical one it ultimately renders through.

>Unusable computer please help!

My desktop gets stuck in this boot-loop at random times. It will start up, not connect to the monitors, and then make this mechanical beeping noise to turn off (same as when you power a computer off; I'm assuming it's the hard drive being stopped). It will start up again and repeat, even if I flip the switch off then on.
When it eventually gets working again (it seems about as random as when it enters this issue), I'm brought to the MSI overclock menu on startup.
This is so infuriating. What could be the cause, and how can I stop it!?

I think that you missed the point of putting specialized information in a general thread, instead of a thread where the contents contains the subject matter you are looking for.

>>
>>57051037
This sounds more like a question of usability rather than what's technically better. Think about what a user would want to do and how you can make those actions easiest.

>somehow have button that changes from "buy lead" to "view full lead"?
This sounds the most straightforward and best option. They view it right there in the app. Add a share button that shares it as a blob of text or possibly a .vcf file if it's like a normal contact. They can then copy it to the clipboard, send it as an email, send it over Bluetooth, whatever. Buttons to call or email the person directly would be nice too if that's a reasonable thing a user would want to do with the lead.

>let them DL a text file?
This is no-nonsense but doesn't integrate well into mobile. You get a text file you save someplace, then the user has to open a file browser, browse to that location, and view it. Or on an iPhone they're just SOL because there isn't general purpose file storage.

>email them the data they purchased??
Better than a text file, but it's still a bit clunky, especially if a user wants to call the person directly. When they could have just tapped "call", they now have to wait for your email, select the phone number from the email, copy, and paste it into the phone app.
>>
>>57051138
>Is there a working version of Windows 7 on pirate Bay or any other torrent sites?
Yes. Look up the MD5 or SHA1 sums for the old Digital River clean images. Look for torrents that list that same sum, download them, then verify the sum in case the uploader lied.

I also usually trust murphy78's AIOs, which have updates integrated up to when he made it, and can install any edition from one disc.

>Also how do I install it without a dvd drive?
Use Rufus to put it onto a USB stick. Some of the AIO ones are too big for a DVD unless it's dual-layer anyway.

Or maybe it's a malicious email with a forged sender address. I wouldn't click on anything in it.

My computer froze while configuring a Windows 7 update, now it won't load past the BIOS.

Signs are pointing to a damaged SSD (Opened Ubuntu on a USB and it can't detect the file system), and the freeze merely pushed it over the edge.

What should I do?

I don't have a Windows installation disk / key, so I could try and convince a windows tech support to give me one.

I could also just try installing Ubuntu on it and wiping the Windows 7, although I mainly use my desktop to shitpost and play games, which isn't as easy on Linux.

If you downgrade, you're doing a clean install. You need to fresh install all drivers. There is no 10-to-8.1 upgrade install. The 10 drivers from the OEM's website might or might not work on 8.1, and the OEM might or might now provide drivers for 7 or 8.1 which might or might not work better than the ones for 10.

What part of it aren't you sure about? You detect whether the user has bought this one by querying your server or checking a locally stored value, and choose which button to show based on that. Then when they tap the button you validate on the server that they actually did buy this one before sending it, because otherwise a user could change their local settings to say they bought stuff they didn't.

Sounds like you've jumped in the deep end. You're going to have to look at the docs for the database and figure things out with the guys you have doing the backend. You need a little bit of programming knowledge to understand and generalize the examples found in the docs and paste bits together.

This does work better if you know a little of how to program before taking on a fairly complicated thing.

I have a .qcp audio file that I want to convert to flac. It's some weird format from an old phone. The mediainfo details are below.
Format : QLCM
File size : 58.1 KiB

Audio
Format : EVRC
Bit rate : 13.0 Kbps
Channel(s) : 1 channel
Sampling rate : 8 000 Hz
Bit depth : 16 bits

I know that I can just do
ffmpeg -i file.qcp out.flac
. I messed with this a few years ago and seem to remember needing to set some ffmpeg parameter, but I can't remember what it was. Something like the bit rate or depth or sampling rate needed to be specified or else it sounded noticeably worse than the source.

1. Does anyone know what parameter I need to set to get it to sound exactly like the source file?
2. The parameter I set only needs to match the source, right? I don't, like, need to set it slightly higher to make sure there's no weird edge-case cutoff in quality? I don't know anything about audio encoding, so I'm sorry if that's dumb. I just want it to be a perfect copy.

Why are you sshing root@, not your_username@? Most people set their ssd to disallow root ssh login entirely, with good reason: If an attacker knows the name is root he just has to guess the password, not also the username. And if he does bruteforce the password, he already has root and doesn't need to do anything else to get full access to everything.

What are some good options in Linux for finding duplicate/similar images in a directory? It needs work even with modifications and artifacts in the image like Google Reverse Image Search does.

I've tried Geeqie and it does the job pretty well. It's just that every time you want to find duplicates it takes a really long time when you have a lot of images. And it doesn't cache any data so even if you add a single new image it has to start all over again. I'd like a solution that doesn't have these issues.

It was a horror thread and I was looking at the images. One of them was a picture of a freaky old lady in the thumbnail as a gif. I figured it would be a screamer but I clicked on it anyway to see what the screamer would be.

Then the image expanded then 404d.

Other people in the thread encountered the same thing and I have no idea if anons claiming its a virus are telling the truth or not or that its some elaborate trick I don't know about.

can't say for sure, but I'd guess it was people fucking with you, like being on /b/ and pointing to a deleted post/picture saying "too soon" or "that's sick" etc
>>
>>57053857
Which board was it?
Can you find it in the archive?
>>
>>57053896

Well apparently I am supposed to get a screamer in about a month.

Don't open the thumbnail for good measure.

I stand corrected, that's very spoopy.
I'd love to know the trick to this
>>

It's just a gif that's programmed to become transparent after the first frame.
It doesn't go 404, it still stays open, just transparent.

What a clever monkey.
>>
>>57053989
indefinitely?
>>
>>57053989
NVM, apparently it didn't work the first time, but I tried it again and after becoming transparent it closed.
No idea how.
Scanned it on virustotal and it's 100% clean. Can't post the link though. 4chan tells me it's spam.

?

Gifs don't have to be necessarily cyclical. You can make them so they only play once.
>>
>>57054024
has to be some sort of deliberate corruption to where it starts to play then drops off instead of completing the fetch of the file? not familiar with such modification, just guessing
>>
>>57054024
Gimp can't open it either.
>>
>>57054040
>>57054043
Yeah, seems to be some kind of corruption.
Maybe we could ask on another forum outside of /g/ where there are actually competent people.

oh fuck me. got it to open in PS CS6 as layers, rebuilt it, and when trying to save it out as a separate file PS locked up.
that's enough internet for tonight, I'm out.
