Thinkpads are expensive, close to Apples prices. Just because you can buy used Thinkpads from bank leases doesn't mean they were cheap at release.

That said, older BlackBerry phone are probably the Thinkpads of the mobile world

I use pic related.
It may not be a smartphone, but I've used it as a hammer among other things many times over the past 4ish years.
Battery lasts weeks with ~20m voice / 20 texts a day.
