Is Gentoo really as good as everyone says it is?
fuck no
just use windows.. Lol everyonbe talks shit about "win 10 botnet" but its more secure then arch
No.
lol just use windows, linux doesn't have battlefield 1, who else excited?!?!
>>57043276
How so?
>>57043257
No, it's a literal meme.
it's a meme you dip
now install Gentoo
>>57043257
Better. Most of the meme crowd hasn't even installed it, much less taken time to figure out how to use it efficiently.
>>57043324
i tried it, took hours to install a browser
pretty fun man
it's my favorite distro
install it if
1. you enjoy using linux
2. you like having complete control over your system
3. you like having a rolling-release distro that will never break (unless *you* break it)
don't install it if
1. you just want to get shit done and don't like configuring your computer
2. you don't give a shit about having full control over your OS
the performance benefits gentoo gives you over other distros is mainly because of use flags. compiling everything with -march=native gives you minimal performance benefits, but use flags can actually be significant. you can strip shit like policykit, udisks, consolekit, acl, bluetooth, cups, or whatever else you might not need. there is documented proof that not having support for that stuff compiled in will improve app loading times and consume less memory.
>>57043347
Sure faggot.
sudo emerge --ask www-client/firefox-bin
Takes one fucking minute to install.
>>57043276
>>57043276
you are stupid
a system that sends your data to MS is not secure
>>57043257
It's not perfect but it's pretty fucking good. Only down side is that Portage was written in Python....
>>57048018
But there are alternatives to portage
>>57045371
>gentoo
>installing binaries
are you fucking retarded?
>>57043276
Bait, reddit or /v/
>>57048714
I am not full blown autist to compile firefox or libre office.
Anyway nowadays core i7 would compile it within 10-15 min even with every single optimization flag enabled.
So is gento and Kali Linux kinda of the same when using terminal commands (sorry I'm new trying to learn all this)
>>57043257
I literally say 'install gentoo' every time I see someone mention gentoo. I've never used and don't care to use gentoo. I use arch.
>>57048018
there is literally nothing wrong with this
>>57043276
>..
>Lol
>"botnet"
>then
Are you having fun shitposting, anon?
>>57050651
It means, it could be ten times faster written in a sane language, it's never "not the bottleneck", as the binding wrappers are abstracted enough to provide plenty of overhead.
>>57050746
lets rewrite portage in haskell
>>57050665
sadly yes
