Why are you not using Slackware /g/?

Honest questions :
(1) why should I use Slackware over Arch if I want binary based distro? I think I can tolerate systemd with pacman better than no systemd at the price of a shitty packet manager
(2) if I absolutely want systemd off, why should I choose Slackware over gentoo? Gentoo has better support and a larger community
(3) if I want a 'meme' distro, why should I take Slackware over something even more exotic?
I considered Slackware few months ago when changing from Arch to gentoo. Now I am trying to decide whether to go back to Arch (I was used to it), stay longer on gentoo (I still lack knowledge about kernel optimization to fully take all the benefits from it) or try something new.

>shitty package manager
I know im n00b on linux but cant you change package managers?
>binary based
Isn't any and all distros just a bunch of packages put together?
I may actually try slackware soon because it allows for an "easy" way to create your own live usb custom to whatever you want.
>>57038868
all linuxes do.
search for linux USB with persistance
>>57038876
No no no anon. I dont want persistance, thats the thing.
I want a non persistent system and i want to customize it the way i want it to be.
Because I'm using OpenBSD.
>no systemd

Because I like systemd.

>cwm
>ksh
my nigger
Because Volkerding won't be around forever, and Slackware will turn to shit after he passes. I cut my teeth on Slackware and always considered it to be the 'One True Linux'. I use Debian now.
>>57039120
I use ksh and cwm, but I used to use FVWM. I honestly don't have clear preferences for one or the other. Why should I use cwm over FVWM?
>>57039100
I have the same resolution as you. How do you live with it?
>>57039134
FVWM is a bitch to configure. That's the only reason I can think of.
Both are great choices.
>>57037677
I am using Slackware in my laptop since I bought it back in 2011 and was using it before in my desktop so I am using Slackware since like 2009 but the last months I used to have wonduws but wanted something a little more challenging/different or complex so I changed to GNU/Linux
If I need anything Windows I have VMs to do it.
>>57039246
I also have a dualboot of Slackware+Debian which I wanted to change to Slackware+Arch I can't seem to make it work
>>57039293
Try using Arch-Everywhere or Antergos to install it (antergos is a distro based off arch)
Might be a bit easier. I'm planning on doing this on Friday, but will dualboot FreeBSD and Arch
>suddenly, openbsd fags
>>57039321
Might try to do that

>I think I can tolerate systemd with pacman better than no systemd at the price of a shitty packet manager
This tbqh. Everything I've read about slackware makes it seem right up my alley except the fact that compared to the ease of use of pacman, slackware's package manager seems kinda shit.
>>57037677

Confirmed for having never installed Slackware.

>slackware's package manager seems kinda shit
Are you calling yourself shit, anon?
Been using slack from the get go.
Here are some myths.
Its a source based distro.
You cant resolve dependencies.
Its hard to install and configure.
Its bloated.
Its not bloated.
Patrick Volkerding is the only person who makes/maintains/contributes to the distro.
Its has out of date packages.
It doesnt have a rolling release cycle.
It has a small community.
It has no community.
There is no chance in the future that it will adopt systemD.
It doesnt maintain lilo.
Its not ideal for servers.
Its not ideal for desktops.
Its not stable.
Its slower.
It has poor driver support.
Its completely free.

Which package manager? slackpkg or pkgtool?
Whats wrong exactly?
it's dead since pat got laid off from ibm but that's okay since the only people who "use" it just pretend to and are vocal about how its the oldest and must be the best because they were "there first"
users trip over their feet on a daily basis trying to install any thing and end up saying "all you need is on the CD" so we're right back in the 90s
doesn't run any important server, app, etc
doesn't show up on indeed, dice, or any job site saying that having it is a bonus
