I have 32GB in total, and I'm only using 4 of my 8 DIMM slots.

I can have up to 128GB installed if I want.

What does it matter the size I use to show a benchmark?

Did i get scammed?
>>
>>57034861
... it's a 1GB fixed test size you literal moron, see the little drop down box that says "1GiB" that's the size of the benchmark file you're doing the test with, I could make with 30GB and I'd get the same results with a 1GB test.

you're not "using" it, you're just testing your ram

we're talking about actual drives that people use

awesome speeds though, not even gonna hate

Except I use my RAMDisk, in that instance, yes I was just benchmarking, but I use it all the time as a cache for temporary internet files instead of using my C:\ drive
>>57035183
Almost all RAMDisk software I use allows you to setup automatic backups of the RAMDisk that are reloaded upon reboot. The software I use allows for 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 24 hour backups.

I generally use 30 minutes for the auto backups, and it can also be set to backup upon shutdown, obviously with an unexpected loss of power you'd lose whatever wasn't in there from the last backup, but my UPS has 25-35 minute of run time, so unless the power outage happens within 3-5 minutes of my last backup, I wont lose anything, and even if it does happen right then, I still have 20 minutes I can manually backup and shut everything down before the UPS battery dies.

>He actually paid for a 30min UPS
Next you're gonna tell me its biggest use is for your ramdisk backups because your "hard drive" resets every time you turn off your computer
>>
>>57035307
Wut...

I have a UPS because I get power outages every few weeks, they are usually just quick outages, 10 seconds at the most generally. It would be stupid to have $2,000+ in electronics NOT hooked up to a UPS in these circumstances.

Especially if you do work on the computer regularly where a power outage could cost you some serious time, if the power goes out when i'm doing an encode overnight, i'd really prefer the encode can continue on uninterrupted just because there was a 10 second power failure. With a UPS I have no worries.

It lasting that long is just an advantage and the timing works out great for my RAMDisk backups.

you do like video production work or something?
>>
>>57035421
>you do like video production work or something?
Yup, though I'm starting to work with larger and larger 4k projects, so I either need to get a larger M.2 SSD for scratch space, or invest in more RAM and use a RAMDisk for it.

I'll probably go for the M.2 route though.

Yeah I was looking at those, but I was also looking at the Samsung 960 Pro, only $300 more than that intel but with 2TB instead of 1.2TB, and 3200MB/s read speeds with 2100MB/s write speeds, 440k random read IOPS, 360k random write IOPS, etc etc.

Either way it will probably be a few months before I bite the bullet unless I get a project that forces me to upgrade or something.

It's literally identical to PCIex4, it's the same bus. Just a horizontal slot instead of vertical.

kek, confirmed retard who doesn't understand how RAID works.

Or you do understand it and have convinced yourself that somehow you are actually able to take advantage of the increased speeds (you aren't)
>>

nobody listen to this dumbass stupid highschool dropout retard
>>
>>57035846
Then explain to me the advantages of running RAID 0 on SSDs where your internet speed isn't even close to approaching the write speed of a SINGLE of your SSDs, you aren't doing huge Database worksets where you need large fast storage, and you aren't working on RAW 4k video which might also require lots of storage space and very fast speeds.

So go ahead, i'll wait. Tell me what you think the advantage of using your SSDs in RAID0 is. I'll wait.
