I know three people who own an edge phone and literally all of them don't even use the extra features they just like it having a bigger screen.

It makes the bezel effectively invisible, and in the current market gimmicks like these push sales more than specs.

So the case is easier to peel off when you need to click the icons near the edge.

My note got constant compliments about how futuristic and amazing the screen looked.. Obviously it had more to do with the Super Amoled because those popping colors but many of those comments (from coworkers and family) were specifically aimed at the curved display.

I was a diehard fan of the xperia line but those last X models are just atrocious.
I was about to buy the Z5 premium, and u would have, if they hadn't done that dick move of sweeping it under the rug to promote those ugly as sin X ones..
XA Ultra is the least awful one, it's quite pretty actually, but the midrange internals are kind of a letdown if you're into that.

All high end phones basically look the same but with Edge(tm)(c) you know instantly it's a Samsung phone.

It's honestly really pleasant to use. I can speak for the S7 Edge but not the Note 7 screen, can only assume it's the same though.

I got to use both for around three weeks each and the Note 7 far outdoes the S7.
It's more comfortable when held in one hand and it register far, far less the palm of your hand as an input, compared to the S7.
S7 is more catchy though, since its more noticeable when seen from the sides.

Going by the replies it seems like people really don't know, but every review I've read of the Edge and note are about how the curved sides are mostly for software designers to put controls on. Buttons on the edge are out of the way of the main screen and are supposed to give a natural feeling, as if using side mounted buttons for stuff like "reply to email" or "play/pause/forward/back", and that software design would still be compatible with flat displays, just slightly less convenient.

I've seen a lot of reviews say this and before I read any I thought the same thing when I played with both for a little bit at a demo booth at CostCo. I ended up getting the S7 non-Edge though, mostly because I prefer cases with raised lips anyways, since I'm so clumsy.

Sure thing, it's all up to the user, since everyone handles their phone differently, and it matters if you use a case or not etc.
It's a darn shame that their most refined curved display (the S6 looks terrible and somewhat outdated by now) turned out to be probably the last one.
