>>

I doubt they'll be bankrupted. They do produce tons of other shit besides phones and produce more computer chips than anyone else in the world.

But yea the Samsung Note 7 is their biggest blunder to date. Tho I've seen the new Iphones do the same but Apple covers that up much better.

Samsung is a government subsidized multinational corporation. If they ever go bankrupt or get get near South Korea would bail them out. Japan has the same corps essentially.

At least Samsung is ethical enough to issue a worldwide recall.

There's been news of the new iPhones exploding for awhile now and Apple still hasn't issued any recalls.

The Internet is ablaze with apologists throwing out examples of other phones catching fire or rapidly outgassing to support Samsung in their hour of need, and it boggles my mind. I find it hard to believe that there are people who can still equate random manufacturing defects, which can be no less severe and would not exist in a perfect world, with an actual design flaw.
>>
>>57024934
>some poor bastard got bronchitis after breathing the fumes
Acute bronchitis.
Aka, it lasts for a couple of days. You'll get it from most smoke inhalation.
>>
>>57025069
This is a random manufacturing defect though. The Chinese Note 7s have the same design battery yet it doesn't explode at the rates of the rest of them.

>>
>>57024883
People like you are the reason for which bad things need to happen.

Having a device that can violently burst into flames for no reason in places like an airplane or a gas station is not a blunder, it's a fucking hazard. If some freak accident caused a serious injury or fatality to you or someone you know, things would be taken more seriously.
They have been lucky so far but it's a matter of time as even their washing machines are destroying themselves.
>>
>>57025120
no, that's a fucking design flaw. that's why they're being recalled and why they're abandoning it and why they're telling people not to turn them on.

any phone can catch fire if you crush it. but other phones don't just burst in flames doing nothing like Note7 does.
>>
Be honest, can they actually recover?
>>
>>57025186
But like I said, the Chinese Note 7s that have the SAME DESIGN BATTERY aren't bursting into flame, so it isn't a design flaw.

>>57025197
Guaranteed.
>>
>>57025183
Engineering mistakes, manufacturing mistakes happen. If you only understood the scale of production that Samsung do, you'd understand that while regrettable, this is a small blip for Samsung. I don't expect everybody to have perfect decisions at all time and the team at Samsung are no different to anybody else.
>>
>>57025208
>But like I said, the Chinese Note 7s that have the SAME DESIGN BATTERY aren't bursting into flame, so it isn't a design flaw.

How do you know? If it was just a manufacturing defect, then why samsung kill it? It's over note 7 is officialy and permanently end production.
>>
I know mostly everyone here is memeing but no one will care about this once real replacements are sent out and their new phone comes out next year
>>
>>57025251
>real replacements
There is gonna be no replacements, note 7 is officially dead
>>
>>57025248
They bungled their response to the original problem. Samsung are completely capable of making a recall of their recall and demanding a suitable engineering/manufacturing solution from their team. They decided that it would be "safer" to abandon the Note 7 brand rather than risk another botched recall for the second time in the same product.
>>
So they're going to return their money or something ?
>>
>>57025229
>this is a small blip for Samsung.
you can't put price on reputation you dumbass. sammy ruined theirs through this ordeal. it will take 5+ years for ppl to forget and forgive.
>>
>>57025248
>If it was just a manufacturing defect, then why samsung kill it? It's over note 7 is officialy and permanently end production.
It could be too costly and too long for them to correct the production lines. Phones have about an 8 month release cycle now days, if they have to spend another month fixing the production lines and then getting more replacements out we would be looking at only like 4 or 5 months until the next Note release anyway, and they have preparation for the next Galaxy coming up.

Trying to fix it again just isn't worth it.
>>
>>57025286
"All publicity is good publicity. The only bad publicity is no publicity"
>>
I'd still buy it if someone sells it for around $200.
>>
>>57025277
>>57025307
>making a recall of their recall

That would be just plain ridiculous, they tryied already to "fix" it and it did not work(probably just swaped the battery), the replaced unist explode too. That's what I call a design flaw.
>>
>>57025286
I don't think Samsung seriously harmed their reputation from this because (aside from that one American employee) they handled the cases in a fairly quick manner, did a massive recall and then again cut it off when the problem wasn't fixed.

And from what I hear the carriers are giving full refunds or swap to device of the users choice, which will be reimbursement from Samsung as well.

They're basically doing all the things right without lawsuits forcing them into it.
>>
>>57024934
You don't get acute bronchitis. That's just burgers trying to jew Samsung.
>>
>>57025334
look I personally would never buy a samsumg smartphone again, and I guess most of the note 7 owners would say the same.
>>
>>57025229
Sure, worse things happened with self-driving cars for example. The main problem is that smartphones are such a "vital" part of anyone today and go with us to any place at any time. It's a bigger responsibility than it's taken into account, considering how everyone is so paranoid for any hazards and terrorism, they are on a slippery slope for some safety measure to be created on the moment some freak accident causes some major panic, destruction or death.
>>
>-8.04%

Top kek, Finished and bankrupt.
>>
Let's take another device with a design flaw for example. It doesn't burst into flame, so it isn't that bad.

The iPhone6 has a known issue with the Touch IC that will eventually affect pretty much every single device that remains in operation. People have been charged $300-400 to replace their phones because of this issue because Apple can't repair it, only to have it happen with the replacement devices too.

Is the iPhone6 in Apple's Repair Extension Program for this issue?
https://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/

                                                                                                                                                          The answer is no.

Exploding batteries are a far more serious issue, I completely agree. However, when this Touch IC issue came out all Apple had to do was admit it was a design flaw and issue Repair Extension Program for it to replace affected devices for free, which is only fair because it is a design flaw.
They have done nothing. They still do not recognize it as an issue.
>>
>>57025366
Wrong.
>>
>>57025366
I'm still waiting for them to make a Note that's better than the Note Edge.
>>
>>57025229
There are mechanism and tools, double, triple cuadriple checks and qualitty and security testing, it's just not acceptable for a company of the size of samsumg to have this problems. Samsung is not just one engineer or a team of 5 engineers. They just fuck up really bad this time, they probably did not run full testing programs or/and ignored some flaws, before realeasing the device to the market.
>>
>>57023818
Wait, so /pol/ loves Samsung? How very un-nationalistic of them.
>>
>>57025439
We are talking about a defect that is affecting less than 1 in 100,000 devices.

They could have potentially tested more than 1000 and still only had a 1% chance of a defect being among their sample.
>>
I was just about to replace my note 7, and the shops cancelled replacements.

I was going to keep the new note 7 regardless, I'll take the risk.

But no, now im stuck with my note 7 that i've been treating like shit because I knew I was going to get a new one. Also this is locked to maximum 60% battery.

>>
>>57025471
>4chan is only Americans
>>
If I get my hands on a Note 7, would a third party battery solve its issue assuming there are third party batteries available?
>>
>>57025558
Mine still charges to 100% with T-Mobile, unless 100% is actually 60%? Only thing I get is the warning pop up when I plug it into a charger. I've had it charging in direct sunlight while driving almost every day and have had zero issues. Probably the best phone I've had so far. LG G4 kept overheating doing the same exact shit and I had to always carry a spare battery to keep it going during the day.

Been trying to exchange it the last few weeks but they never had them in stock.
>>

Most phones will do it, but it overheats while using GPS and bluetooth during the day in my car. The Note gets warm doing the same thing but doesn't get as hot as my G4 did. The G4 would give pop ups and eventually shut itself off. Bit of a pain when I'm using GPS.

I liked it at first, though. Shit just started happening over time and I had to replace it thanks to the boot looping. If I absolutely have to exchange it, I'll get the V20. Only thing that sucks is going back to GG4 because GG5 on the Note glides super fucking smoothly and doesn't attract smudges nearly as much.

Well there's one piece of good news to come out for the Note 7 in recent days.

The screen scratching at a Mohs 3 was erroneous, due to fragments of the sharpening stone getting caught in the tips of his picks.

Yes it does. iPhones have always overheated. The iPhone7 has a new feature of hissing when it does too.

Say what you want about iphones but they're worth it for resale and upgrading alone.

I'll give that a shot if I trade it in. Thanks m8.

They targeted gamers.
Gamers.
We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us.

Do you motherfuckers understand now? DO YOU? Let me spell it out one more time for the densest among you. This. Is. Not. Just. About. Video games. These people want to destroy those of you who speak out and control the rest. You've seen them talk on twitter and tumblr, they will happily put you to death if they could and drink your tears while doing so. Video games is one front of a much larger war. It does not begin or end with video games and if you don't fight you are going to lose so much more than just a hobby. This is the end of the war, they have been winning it for years. Gamergate was a surprise resistance that popped up after our "forces" had been routed and slaughtered on the altar of social justice for decades. If you want to live in a world where some histrionic pampered brat and her sniveling cohorts can cry harassment and shut down entire websites then yeah sure do nothing just protect the vidya I guess. If that idea disgusts you then it is time to stand up if you haven't already and fight them on every level. Remember Shirtgate? Remember how they made a motherfucking scientist cry on what should have been the best day of his life? Over a shirt? It's not just about video games these people are monsters in human skin. Fight them!

My friend's iPhone 5S doesn't
>>
>>57026515
Its often a very simple answer. The on-the-face issue is how the company manages to handle the situation. If they've found either to be the case, they may have simply taken gamble that the replacement wont blow up, since its a very small change it will happen anyway. The scenario where this happens is probably very limited that most samshit owners wont see. However the gamble failed and now its a public relations nightmare.

Like yourself, whatever rational explanation simply wont fly through when people are caught up in the emotional turmoil.

Removable batteries will come back.

It's not just that it is easier to replace them. The construction of a removable battery is different to one that isn't made to be removed. It is more rigid which makes it less prone to impacts affecting it and other things that may cause it to fail.

Both are describing the situation. Now with literally.

"Old"
>It was a hot day and John said he was on fire. His wife quickly threw a bucket of water on him. She takes things quite literally.

"New"
>I literally don't think that's a good idea.

Not the same. Not at all.

It is actually quite disgusting that a company like samsung subsidizes their mediocre tech and iphone ripoffs with their state-granted monopolies (they make up 20% of south koreas GDP). If the government would own most of the shares I could see why, but here in norway the state monopolized oil industry makes up 15% of the GDP if im not mistaken.
