Strange, most universities I've seen uses Ubuntu when they need a GNU/Linux environment, if not, CentOS/Debian for the networking course.

My uni used macs for freshman Java. You got to move up to centos in upper levels.

We used Ubuntu.

We use pirated Windows 7.
Every single nonfree as in beer proprietary software on it is pirated as well (and the worst part is that it is not cracked properly so Photoshop does not work)

My uni mainly uses Debian. We can choose between many window managers. (including i3 and xmonad)

Some rooms also have Arch or Ubuntu.
