The salesman conned my dad into buying a year of norton antivirus with my laptop
I feel like I have to use it now, since it was like $60, but I still really hate it.
Are viruses still a thing?? Were they ever a thing?? or were they just part of fearmongering about the internet that old people like to do
Surely free AV plus like, common sense and basic browser security is enough
What do you guys reckon? What AV do you use?

You need to be 18+ to post here.
Buy your oen stuff next time.
Defender with common sense.
Be wary of Norton at the end of the subscription, lots of reports of Norton from years back, of blocking networking traffic (buffering speeds on youtube for example) and causing malicious wireless card driver stoppages to 'Re-create' virus like behaviour.
All to con the facebook grandmother into paying out a new year.

Free AV is fine but yes, malware is definitely a thing. I worked IT for a while, it is literally just doing malware removal and reinstalling because malware fucked something up. Security suites are actually kind of nice for older users who don't really have that common sense since they perform active monitoring but it's pretty bloated
>since it was $60
Ever heard of sunk cost?
>the year 2016
>not running common sense 2017
We had norton back in the 90s and it blocked us going on the internet (stopped the dial up) it was so shit.
Nowadays I just use windows defender & malware. I dont have anything worth stealing file wise like some morons on this board beleive they have so its enough
