So, I was too babby when all the ps3/geohotz stuff was going down, and have a PS3 with the firmware update.
However, I want to get Linux on there now. Am I fucked? Googling just takes me to forums filled with clueless 13 year olds, but at least here the 13 yo's can install gentoo

I know that Linux on PS3 is called OtherOS. I heard something about Rebug supporting it, but I never tried that.

You'll need to downgrade your PS3 to 3.55 first.

Aha, many thanks senpai, though is not the 3.21 update the one that removed the otherOS feature. Can't read links ATM, just checking

I think this was supported only (and up to a certain firmware) on 80gb versions (fat 1st gen ps3) along with backwards compatibility. Later versions removed both them.
way I heard it is its like psp, don't upgrade further if you can help it, downgrade to factory if possible, install linux.
because sony are lame about 3rd party OS stuff and patched it out themselves. (yet sold some company like 300 factory ps3's so they could make a linux super computer cluster.)

You're going to have a bad time. The linux compatibility is absolute shit. There are some nice gems to actually play on that thing but linux?
It runs like ass and on a shit compatibility layer. You would have better performance out of an old single core dell than you will with linux and ps3.
Seriously man don't waste your time.

this
you don't want to CFW it for linux, you want to CFW it for homebrew and backups.
