You get a whole lot of information when you use -v (verbose) output. You can also log the output to a file to debug.
Try --msg-level=all=trace for extreme information.

Was looking for comparisons between scalers and noticed the ammount of ringing that "the best" scaler produces.

Not sure if I should add anti ringing to this (0.8 seems to get rid of it all) or use a different scaler

Here's the same picture with anti ring

Dunno, but keep in mind that that picture is a very extreme example. The original is 19x33. If you upscale big pictures (more importantly 720p videos and movies) than the artifacting is barely visible if at all. Nothing is prohibiting you from creating a script that does this.
mpv is a media player, not a "multifeature" bloated gui
>>
>>57011447
Why would a gui automatically make it bloated?
>>
>>57011494
Because that's not what mpv is supposed to do. It's supposed to play media and that's it. A GUI would be the responsibility of a separate front-end.
>>
>>57011569
SMPlayer would be a good GUI but they keep caring about mplayer for whatever reason. The newer mpv versions kinda broke it because smplayer hardcodes "vo=opengl:blabla" and that has been deprecated

I've lost the fight with mpv on my new machine.

I build a new shitposter box for some light dev work now I had some money, spec:
i3-6100 @ 3.7Ghz
igpu 530 (with latest drivers)
16GB ram

Issues:
angle:
Works fine but drops frames @ 720p windows, works fine maximized but suffers same shit when fullscreened.

dxinterop:
Completely fucked, has most image missing with colored static showing
dxva2-copy super fast green flashes

I guess d3d11va works but the timings are so fucked up.
I have 0 issues with dxva2-{native,copyback}, quicksync with mpc-be + lav filters and frame timing are all good, graphs look great.

Known issue for my cpu/igpu? I can't buy a "real" gpu just for watching videos with mpv, that's stupid.

with hwdec=no it drops frames like fucking crazy, forgot to mention that.

conf:
#profile=opengl-hq
deband=yes
hwdec=auto

If i use opengl-hq it gets even worse in windowed mode but is just as fine when maximised. Like in windowed mode 720 drops frames and high timing, in proper full screen same issue but when just maximised it works fine and like the timing drop from 15k to 3k.
It makes no sense.

>>
>>57014898

Do you really think mpv antiringing algo is good?
Do you really think mpv works better than mpc-be/madvr?
Do you really think madvr is shit just because it's closed source?
Or do you think mpv is the best only because it runs on linux?

I am wondering why it's so shitty (mostly performance) on my machines?
I am happy to have mpv on my linux partition but saying it's "much more" better than madvr with mpc-be or mpc-hc is just a lie. Meme filters like superxbr, nnedi3 or sharpeners are easily 2x faster. Now I can understand that using windows is just a joke for you but don't blame madvr, mpc-be, mpc-hc and so on...

>>
>>57016847
As a windows user I have used both. Honestly, picture quality is about the same to me. The noticable differences I noticed was mpv used less resources and seems to render faster when seeking. There are other reasons why I like it more like streaming capabilties with youtube-dl and the fact that its highly customizable, more so than any closed source software.
>>
>>57016975
I have absolutely no problem with youtube-dl and mpc-be.

For me, madvr is quite better than mpv, I suppose it's because of opencl.
The madvr sharpen edges algo is better than finesharp or adaptive-sharpen.

Nnedi3 performance is the madvr killer feature, large upscaling with jinc based upscalers produces insane aliasing compared to nnedi3.

Could mpv easily be changed to allow an arbitrary number of subtitle files rendered simultaneously?
Like, for every --slang= or --sid=, invoke another separate subtitle rendering engine and layer them.

but there's nothing preventing the new instance from starting before the old one has finished saving the position

Anyone else think it's dumb that playlist files are read once at startup?
I want to be able to change them as things are playing and have my changes take effect immediately.
I could prolly do this with Lua easy enough, but haven't bothered to yet.

What exactly do you mind by this? you can just shift+drag the file and it will add it to the playlist I guess?

sorry, not as good but "good" for less performance.

I want to be able to remove things from playlists I didn't intend to include.
It's certainly not critical or even very important - But it would be nice.
I don't know about whatever this shift+drag thing is, but I gather we prolly use our computers very differently.

You mean search/pick trough the playlist while removing or choosing from it?

Yeah I agree with you, but I don't think thats gonna happen any time soon, if ever.

You can add them in the advanced menu with --opengl-shaders=blablabla

Not the config file, it hard codes some commands. If you want to use other settings (or overwrite any) you need to add them in the advanced menu - like adding shaders - has if you were booting mpv from a terminal.

It's shit but it's the only "good" gui for mpv. Also I don't think it works with the more recent mpv builds due to "vo=opengl:etc" being deprecated. The last one that works is version 0.20.0

The only sad part is not working right with the latest mpv due to the deprectaion of "vo="

Really neat, makes me want to swtich from chrome to firefox. There's a similar extension for chrome created by a chink, but it doesn't have any of these options. Actually, the chrome extensions requires me to set environment paths to my python installation, mpv folder, add keys to registry, download you-get and other crap

I'm having an issue with the mpv extension for firefox. Some links only work if they are between quotation marks

So instead of being
mpv http://www.etc

It has to be
mpv "http://www.etc"

Is there anything that I can add to the additional parameters box?

There is an option to have it always on top.

q cycle ontop

or whatever letter you want to bind. Put it in your input.conf and try it.

Consider using "Open With" instead, you can add an "Open with mpv" to the contextual menus, plus you can use other programs besides mpv with it.

I have no experience with your extension so I can't help you with it, sorry. But Open With never gave me any problems. Sucks I'm on Chromium now and it's not here.
>>
>>57027721
How do I do that "open with"?
>>

Install the extension, go to the config, add the programs you want, check the config for each program, add it to whatever contextual menu you want to

>>
>>57027414
Are you using sharpning? That shader comes with sharpning by default, you can disable it and let it work as just an anti ringing shader
>>
When using mpv, on some videos, when i go to scroll to the end, it goes to the last frame, but it dosent close, it just goes back ~15 seconds and repeats, still unable to scroll to the end(to end the playback)
Is this an issue with the media file? or is there some mpv config that would cause is?
>>
>>57027821
>>57027806
Great extension but it still doesn't work. Like I said, some links need to be between quotation marks otherwise it doesn't work.

Window scale * native resolution

That does not work, I would like to capture the video as displayed by mpv (i.e. with interpolation and upscaled at my resolution), or just pipe it to ffmpeg if possible. These options only make a copy of the input stream.

question: I'm using stats.lua and the render/upload times are outlined in red (for the total section) but there are 0 delayed/skipped frames and the video appears just fine (no skipping or juddering). Am I fine? I've gone from opengl-hq with sharp scaling and tscale down to just opengl-hq and there's no change (still red, still smooth video)

If you're playing a 60fps you need a total of less than 16ms. If you're trying to display-resample anything bellow 60fps to 60hz (via interpolation) you also need less than 16ms otherwise it will drop, for the former, or the video won't be as smooth as it should, for the later

This is the most active media player/center open source project!
Look at its github here: https://github.com/MediaPortal
However only the 1st version has a "pretty good/almost perfect" madVR support.
>>
>>57035154
Thanks again. Looks like even with low end settings and low bitrate video there's no dropped/delayed frames but the present queue is still red (~45ms). I think it might be the GPU sending false info since I'm using the rx 480 on kernel 4.4 (no native OS drivers)
>>
>>57035257
At 45ms everything becomes extremely choppy and literally unwatchable for me. It certainly looks like bad info.

I think there were a few commands that could help this but I don't remember which. Pretty sure there was someone in one of these threads that had the same problem. Maybe try --opengl-early-flush=yes ? Dunno what it does but doesn't hurt to try
>>
>>57035257
Forgot to ask, do 60fps videos run smoothly as if you were watching them on youtube or any other media player? If yes than it has to be bad info
>>
>>57035304
>>57035323
I tried a 60fps YT video and it's silky smooth like it is on YT. No dropped/delayed frames but still ~38-42ms red timings. No change after turning early flush on. Seems I should be okay and just try to ignore the timings. Ubuntu Gnome is getting kernel 4.8 in a few days with native rx 480 support so I hope it's fixed with that. Thanks for all your help
