Not gonna lie I really really like the whole concept of this thing. I just feel like Apple took way too long with this and ended up releasing it during a time where most of their customers stopped giving fucks about Desktop computing. It's basically just bragging. Next generation might be interesting when it comes with Thunderbolt 3 which opens up the possibility of using PCI devices externally. Still to expensive, but I enjoy looking at it.

Also, they should have made the housing transparent.

I have a x201 (x201s has heat issue, x200 has a processor too old and x220 is in the 16:9 era) but I admit the screen of the x1 carbon is goat.

Beside reparability, what's wrong with getting soldered components if the specs are maxed out?

Also, the battery of the x1 is not soldered not glued, you just have to open the laptop to access it.

That would be the MacBook Pro.

You cannot get a more objectively functional design than this. There is not a gram of unnecessary fixture. It is beautiful because its almost impossible to make it anything more perfect than it already is. Like an iPhone 4 or 5, its just timelessly elegant while not even trying. It looks better than anything else without even aiming to.

Too rounded. When you think about it, the square shape of the Thinkpad is more masculine and the MacBook design is feminine.

Concerning the discussion of aesthetics, it is more objective than it is subjective. But I think it's both, although I believe aesthetics are more objective.

Mathematics prove that certain designs in nature are more appealing to humans than others. This is an objective fact.
>golden ratio
>fibonacci sequence
>sacred geometry
>even in music underlies mathematical designs based in nature, which humans find more appealing in aesthetics

About the MacBooks looking feminine in how they're rounded, even this is based in objective mathematical principles. Roundness is something we associate when femininity and the effeminate. Perhaps this is a principle of why the meme of Mac products being for homosexuals is rampant.

I think that was peak gloss. It started with candy in the initial OS X release, went to gloss, then I think it went skeumorphic, and now flat.
>>
>>57014361
What kind of pants are you wearing that you can comfortably keep an apple in them? How small is the apple? You give no criteria of proof, and do not allow me to inspect or test the apple. This is a stilted scenario wherein you do not allow me to prove the apple exists.
>>

>rounded jaw on a woman
>squared jaw on a woman

Choose the feminine one.
>>
>>57014526
Who said it was my pants pocket, maybe I am wearing a hooded sweater with a oblong pocket along the abdomen.

The apple is wherever you want it to be, it doesn't exist therefore you can place it wherever you can imagine it being. With full control over the apple and ability to manipulate it how you wish.

However, the criteria for proof of the apples existence is not a simple thing to ask for, simply prove the apple exists. That is all I can say.

>Is there anything more aesthetic than modern thinkpad design?
Easy. Old thinkpad design.
I am writing this right now on my X1C, and this fucker does not compare to the old ones.
It does not look good, and worse, it does not work well!
Sure, it is thin and has great battery life, and no things that stick out (negatively or positively), such as the blue enter key, but that does not make for a great aesthetic. It's just an unnoticable black slab. Sure, that is better than a LED ridden jet engine soundging gaymur monstrosity, but it is also nothing special.
And combine this with the fact that it is fuckin expensive and a functional failure, this makes for a pretty shitty laptop.
And the fact that everything else on the market is even worse, does not make this acceptable.

Just look at stuff like the "butterfly" thinkpad or if you want something more recent, the X300. 100% functional, at the cutting edge of thechnology, yet still a well thought out aesthetic full package.

But the modern ones? meh…If it werent for the trackpoint (which also got worse BTW) and the affordable used market, I would have literally picke dup soome random shit from bestbuy and had 90% the same (shit) experience and looks.

I dont want to completely disable it, since I need it for browsing in my bed or on my couch. Thanks to the fucking sharp edges, I cant use the superiour trackpoint in that position, without cutting my wrists, so I just want to make the touchpad smaller.

These are aesthetics, they are objective, and based in nature with mathematical properties.

All Thinkpads do that, I believe it's actually some sort of calibration mechanism.

I can see your complaints about the touchpad, don't really think the keyboard will be all that much better for you though, the newer ones are actually probably better than that limp mushy shit the *20s ship with.

>is this statue masculine?
>is this statue feminine?
Obviously masculine because it's a giant dick. Rigid. Straight. Not curved.

Same thing applies to the aesthetics of a woman's jawline. A round female jaw is feminine. A squared female's jaw is masculine. These are aesthetics.

Apply the same aesthetics to the rounded design of a MacBook Pro compared to a squared Thinkpad. Thinkpad is more masculine in aesthetics, which implies the MacBook is for homosexuals and the effeminate because it's feminine.

These are the underlying aesthetic principles about the meme of 'Macs being for gays,' only no one else has explained the unexplained aspects until I just did.

Aesthetics, bitch. They're objective and based in nature, which is mathematical in properties.

In regards to the overall shape of the MacBook, its aesthetic is curved, feminine, and gay compared to the squared, superior, alpha male shape of the Thinkpad. Even the name is masculine, THINKpad. Rarely do you see products designed for women with the term 'think' in it. MacBook might as well be called CockSucker Pro.

all but the old thinkpads have adaptive pressure + accel shit on them that can't be removed to my knowledge. that's what causes the moment of drift. notice it happens most when you've been moving the point for a while, it drifts because it's trying to "assist" your next move. the idea being that it makes it easier on the finger to use the trackpoint for a long period of time. which imo is actually true, but it is less precise if you're really good with the trackpoint. try the trackpoint on an x40 or something, it's like the equivalent of a "perfect" sensor on a mouse. it does get taxing after a while though, it wasn't so bad on the old low-res screens because there was simply less real-estate to traverse, but getting to the edges of a high-res screen with the old trackpoint could be a bother.

A judgement with objective universal validity is also always valid subjectively; i.e. if the judgement holds for everything contained under a given concept, it holds also for every one who represents an object by means of this concept. But from a subjective universal validity, i.e. aesthetical and resting61 on no concept, we cannot infer that which is logical; because that kind of judgement does not extend to the Object. Hence the aesthetical universality which is ascribed to a judgement must be of a particular kind, because it does not unite the predicate of beauty with the concept of the Object, considered in its whole logical sphere, and yet extends it to the whole sphere of judging persons.
>>
>>57029350
In respect of logical quantity all judgements of taste are singular judgements. For because I must refer the object immediately to my feeling of pleasure and pain, and that not by means of concepts, they cannot have the quantity of objective generally valid judgements. Nevertheless if the singular representation of the Object of the judgement of taste in accordance with the conditions determining the latter, were transformed by comparison into a concept, a logically universal judgement could result therefrom. E.g. I describe by a judgement of taste the rose, that I see, as beautiful. But the judgement which results from the comparison of several singular judgements, “Roses in general are beautiful” is no longer described simply as aesthetical, but as a logical judgement based on an aesthetical one. Again the judgement “The rose is pleasant” (to smell) is, although aesthetical and singular, not a judgement of Taste but of Sense. It is distinguished from the former by the fact that the judgement of Taste carries with it an aesthetical quantity of universality, i.e. of validity for every one; which cannot be found in a judgement about the Pleasant. It is only judgements about the Good which—although they also determine satisfaction in an object,—have logical and not merely aesthetical universality; for they are valid of the Object, as cognitive of it, and thus are valid for every one.
>>
>>57029368
If we judge Objects merely according to concepts, then all representation of beauty is lost. Thus there can be no rule according to which any one is to be forced to recognise anything as beautiful. We cannot press [upon others] by the aid of any reasons or fundamental propositions our judgement that a coat, a house, or a flower is beautiful. We wish to submit the Object to our own eyes, as if the satisfaction in it depended on sensation; and yet if we then call the object beautiful, we believe that we speak with a universal voice, and we claim the assent of every one, although on the contrary all private sensation can only decide for the observer himself and his satisfaction.
>>
>>57029390
We may see now that in the judgement of taste nothing is postulated but such a universal voice, in respect of the satisfaction without the intervention of concepts; and thus the possibility of an aesthetical judgement that can, at the same time, be regarded as valid for every one. The judgement of taste itself does not postulate the agreement of every one (for that can only be done by a logically universal judgement because it can adduce reasons); it only imputes this agreement to every one, as a case of the rule in respect of which it expects, not confirmation by concepts, but assent from others. The universal voice is, therefore, only an Idea (we do not yet inquire upon what it rests). It may be uncertain whether or not the man, who believes that he is laying down a judgement of taste, is, as a matter of fact, judging in conformity with that Idea; but that he refers his judgement thereto, and, consequently, that it is intended to be a judgement of taste, he announces by the expression “beauty.” He can be quite certain of this for himself by the mere consciousness of the separation of everything belonging to the Pleasant and the Good from the satisfaction which is left; and this is all for which he promises himself the agreement of every one—a claim which would be justifiable under these conditions, provided only he did not often make mistakes, and thus lay down an erroneous judgement of taste
