16GB.

Gaming plus video editing mostly

16GiB DDR4 3000Mhz

Are you insane? Why would you not pick 16GB? Even if the clock is a slower you can literally do twice the amount of things without caching.

if you're motherboard supports it, might as well do 2133 at some timing like 9-11-11-28, if on cucked fx processors, then only two sticks or it'll be capped at 1600 if you try to use all four.
8GB is only like $45~, and 16GB is $85 or so

Is that real? That's not good at all.

How about lynnfield?
>>
>>57005664

depends if your moo wont bottleneck RAM below 1866mhz and if you actually need more than 8 GB RAm

8 GB DDR4 2133 MHz 13 CL :)

Yep, does 1866 native, can do 2133+, but try to use all four dimms and unless you get lucky with overclocking the northbridge voltage, you're fucked.
>>
>>57007375
My mobo should be fine.

I've got 12GB ddr3 1333 currently running at ~1400mhz, by loosening the timings, I can get it over 1600mhz? What's the catch?
>>
>>57007421
latency, instability

run an instance of HCI memtest for every cpu core you have to test stability with each instance using the amount of ram available divided by the number of CPU cores you have. (i.e. FX 8350 with 16GB, with 2GB in use by the OS, run 8 instances with 1.75GB ram each).

if you get no errors after 20 minutes, you're probably fine. if you want rock solid stability, test for 24 hours.
>>
I'd go with the 8GB now then upgrade later IMO if I was still on DDR3.

>>57007496
This, instead of overclocking at those speeds, you might as well near double the speeds and get new ram.
>>
>>57007632
Not that guy, but why buy new ram only for the speed?
