I've been an android user for years and had a great experience with mainly Samsung and LG phones.

The new IPhone 7 plus however is very appealing in terms of hardware. I'm only concerned about the OS switch.

I'd like to hear the general opinion. Did anyone here do an OS switch? How was it? What did you prefer/disliked from the new OS

ALSO general android VS IOS thread.

I'd like to say something so that this thread keeps the conversation civil but I know that won't happen.

Don't kid yourself. You fell the the designer meme. You're going to buy an iPhone despite it being locked down and overpriced.
>>
>>57005156
Did you ever own an IPhone? Sincerely asking because this felt like an android fanboy answer

Not him, but I've owned Apple devices most of my life, and still use an iPad mini 2 today. iOS feels locked down for every single little thing and it restrains you a ton when you try to use it for anything more "in-depth" than games or Facebook - For an example, you can't download any music or videos online without a third party app connecting to the direct link for you, and if you even dream about exploring your own files, you WILL have to jailbreak and use the somewhat half baked iFile explorer. Oh, and if you install say Chrome, well tough luck, it'll still open all external links in Safari because fuck you.

That being said it does feels very pretty and unified. Its great at doing what it advertises : Browisng the web, sending mails, playing casual games... But, especially if you come from Android, don't expect to feel at home.

tl;dr : Don't fall for the designer meme. They look pretty but you're going to sacrifice headphone jacks and general useability for Stacy's favorite selfie machine.
>>
I really don't like either.
>>
>>57007488
This. It's very hard to accept iOS especially when one came from Linux. It's a nonsense to do not have rights to have a root access to YOUR OWN unix device.
>>
>>57004876
My experience has pretty much been the same on both platforms. Although I treat my Android more like a whore.
>>

>IPhone
Literally the wors phones I ever owned. I had two of them. Buy something with stock Android, like a OnPlus 3. That's what I would buy now if I needed a new phone.

Hardware? In what sense? The V20 is everything the 7 is and more.

I have always jailbroken my Apple devices, but you still shouldn't have to literally BREAK a JAIL when you want simple device functions.
>even 'half-baked' tweaks and apps feel better than android's
I said iFile was half baked, and the latter is subjective.

For someone who comes from Android (like OP) everything I've said stands, not that you would know about it. I went the opposite way, I went to Android when I got tired of Apple's bullshit - Not that I don't find Apple devices attractive, don't get me wrong. I just wish they'd let me use my phone without having to wait half a year for someone to finally find a system exploit.

What the hell do you know about the storage speed? the phone hasn't even shipped yet

In a fancy cage but still a cage.

my first smartphone was a sony ericsson business thing with the flip keyboard and stylus
it was cool but it sorta sucked
then i had an iphone 3g that broke awfully fast
then i had an android, was very good
then i had an iphone 5, seemed nice at first but turned out to be a pain in the ass, no file manager, can't run the programs i want, can't even transfer files to the thing without the piece of crap music player from apple
got an android and i'm happy with it, runs my shit, has a file system and can transfer files whatever way i like whether it be mtp, rsync, sftp, you name it
>>
You're not asking to actually decide, you're going to go and buy it anyways, you're just looking for validation, fuck off
>>
>>57004876
If you're coming from an Android, iOS is nearly useless without a jailbreak. Jailbreak the iPhone to remove a lot of the Apple diagnostics bullshit (NSA spyware). You can also get a file explorer, root access, a real 4chan browser, a decent mobile package manager call Cydia, and all different kinds of things to rice the phone to your liking. There's also OpenSSH and an amazing mobile terminal emulator in Cydia, all for free. So if you don't think you'll be able to handle a small version of OS X, don't jailbreak.
>>
>>57004876
You should stick with Android if it's not causing you any issues.

>i use a massive gaping privilege escalation security hole exploit to get root privilege and basic android features and then prevent apple from patching it so i can keep those features, while inviting russian hackers to freely steal off of my login/passwords and data

Don't. You can get an Axon 7 for that price.

I used to have an iPhone 6s and it was the worst experience of my life.
>>
>>57013607
It's not much different with Android if you want root on your stock ROM. Just a reminder that SuperSU is now owned by chinks. I know a lot about both platforms and I'm not here for the robot vs. fruit circle jerk but I will provide facts for those who are tech illiterate, such as yourself.

>>57013743
You can still do a ton of things on unrooted Android for which you'd need a jailbreak on iOS, however.

So what's your point? You seem to be grasping at straws here. Both platforms are great when rooted.
>>
>>57016137
On iOS you have to wait months before a security flaw is discovered, and then only you can start doing things that an Android user has been doing since day 0.

As a matter of a fact, the current jailbreak (which doesn't work on iOS 10 of course), is semi-untethered, meaning if your phone loses power or you want to restart it, you essentially lose jailbreak until you run the sketchy Chinese app again. It's inconvenient for something as simple as browsing my own files.

Also, not putting aside the usual arguments : Forced to use iTunes/3rd party program to access the device, no freedom to rollback iOS versions, yaddi yaddi yadda.

>>57014983

Sure it's good enough, but it isn't as good as the competition.

Most those points are right, camera, screen and battery life are undeniably right.
