If you really want a stacking WM (I mean, you REALLY want one), get a *Box (openbox, fluxbox, etc), they're the lightest stacking WM around

This is retarded. Why would anyone stop using something like KDE, for example?

It has all the features anyone needs, looks nice and is stable. Why would you want to use a inferior WM and lose tons of nice features?

You can easily customize KDE to fit your needs and add much more than just a shitty WM.

I like fluxbox. It is blindingly simple and easy to modify, and if you take just a little bit of time to play around with the preset themes and read a bit of wiki/docs you can get a very functional and lightweight X setup.

don't fall for the i3 meme if you're coming from KDE and want something that's not full-blown autistic

>gnome shell is pretty smooth and aesthetically pleasing

https://igurublog.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/gnome-et-al-rotting-in-threes/ Gnome is pretty featureless and caters to anyone with an IQ below 15 (see "Oh no something went wrong", with 0 error messages, no location of logs or anything, GNOMEs "Oh no something went wrong" screen is less informative than a windows BSOD, lol)

https://igurublog.wordpress.com/2012/11/05/gnome-et-al-rotting-in-threes/

How's the brand identity going? 2% of people use Linux on the desktop, GNOME. No one cares about the brand identity when barely anyone has even seen a Linux computer. Tweak tool is fucking shit compared to an actual configuration file.

According to someone who tested memory usage on IRC:
- Debian testing KDE plasma used 270MB of RAM.
- GNOME used 600MB of RAM.

This is just fucking pathetic, GNOME literally removes features every upgrade (https://mail.gnome.org/archives/commits-list/2013-March/msg09987.html)

>main: Remove auto-resize and zoom to video
>Those will not make much sense anymore when we want Totem to be maximised most of the time, as per the new designs.

Lol, you can't even find a way to defend this (unless you retards on /g/ count "kys" and "omg who cares" as defenses)

Honestly, you should be retroactively aborted in order to protect muh Unix©™® brand identity.

I use DE's for the Networkmanager applets or whatever they are called to quickly change AP SSID's. What's a good cli version of this? wicd is a tui and sucks and wpa_supplicant commands are too confusing. It takes 7 steps to add a SSID in wpa_supplicant.

I still use Fluxbox, even though Openbox is possibly more updated or feature-rich. I haven't tried it long enough to form an opinion on that.

as far as i can tell, it is not more feature rich if it doesn't have tabs, a highly configurable panel, and very clean config

>Why would anyone stop using something like KDE

Because they don't actually need all its features, or the software packages it forces on them? There's no reason not to use a window manager and just compile / download the software packages you actually plan to use.
