You need to root Android if you care about wanting a true AOSP experience. Nexus is not Stock Android. It's just Android with no Carrier/OEM garbage, but you still have to deal with pre-installed Gapps


Android has a very good recovery mode, backup system. You can fix bootloops, software bricks, etc. If you care about your warranty, root it once the warranty expires like smart people do.

They've been around since 1985 and have mostly been selling network equipment to wireless carriers but they have had many years to develop alright phones.
