ok /g/, just bought a drone and its been charging for about 40 min or so. I cant fucking wait for the battery to charge the full 4 hours before I take it out. am I going to destroy the battery's charging capability if I do so?
>>
>>56983095
how much was it? looks pretty awesome
>>
>>56983156
it looks like junk

and yes, you need to charge it correctly. if you do not balance charge it at the correct rate and let it do its thing the battery will either degrade extremely fast or it will increase the risk of explosion and fire
>>
>>56983156
I got on sale for a total of $293.--
>>
>>56983170
fffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, well I guess ill be on later tonight with more after it charges
>>
>>56983095
Haha all that excitement, wait until you switch it on, fly for 5 mins then it will go straight to the corner with other junk.
>>
>>56983216
also it only has a 20 min flight time
>>
>>56983224
not exactly, I do want to get into drone racing and wanted something to start out with. surprisingly drone racing is somewhat catching on in my area
>>
>>56983224
This is what happens when you have a drone that doesn't have a camera.

If you get a good live feed and a well thought out route/fly zone, then it shouldn't get boring.
>>
>>56983095
>4 HOURS
HAHAHAHA OH SHIT
thats how it must feel to be a normie with prebuilt drones

Hobby RC Guy here
I load my shit in 30 mins or less if I feel like it
>>
>>56983283
I have a drone that is cam-less, its fun to fly around the kitchen, but it does get boring fast. $30 kinda well spent for mild amusement
>>
>>56983322
you are probably charging higher than 1c
>>
>>56983322
I do want to get into custom built drones eventually
>>
>>56983095

INB4 OP crashes it into a tree after 3 minutes and makes a thread later asking how to repair it.
>>
Anyone here smooth with drone control? How long did it take you to git gud?
>>
>>56983394
you have to dial in the rates, something that thing cannot do
>>
>>56983353
>1c
just looked it up thats a weird way to say how "fast" you charge stuff

I usally charge with 4-8 Amperes depending on how hot the batterypack gets.
>>
>>56983394
It depends, if you have good drone then it will have various stabilization functions, so flying it wont be too difficult. Cheap drones dont have any of those.

you are not into hobby rc, you are into toys

battery charging terminology like that is the very first fucking thing you learn. if you are charging lipos like that you are literally fucking retarded
>>
>>56983477
was obviously mean for >>56983437
>>
>>56983477
yeah sure stanger on the internet
I've been doing rc shit for over 25 years thats why I have 34 self built rc models for every terrain and purpose

get cucked by your flight stabilisators faggot
>>
>>56983216
make a thread
>>
>>56983598
post a picture.

anyone who charges lipos at '4-5 amps' without even stating their capacity, doesnt know what c rating is, and judges the charge rate based on how hot the batteries get is a modern miracle they havent burned their parents house down
>>
>>56983598
>get cucked by your flight stabilisators faggot
Confirmed for never even have flown a drone
>>
if you don't charge it completely it won't accurately compensate for the weight of the battery

for example if the battery isn't full and it thinks it is, the UAV will just fly higher and higher because it won't have the added weight of a full battery
>>
>>56983800
>Implying batteries hold more mass when they're fully charged in comparison to fully discharged
>>
i might fly drones for a job soon
>>
>>56983843
i can only imagine he is talking about throttle mid since when the battery discharges it takes more throttle to do the same thing.

but i dont know because that post makes no fucking sense
>>
>>56983865
Really? That makes no sense to me, unless its a software-side thing. On a purely physical level, charge left in the battery =/= available torque/thrust. However, it would of course effect the Delta V.
If firm/software dictates, as a safety feature, that the thrust is directly linked to Delta V, then it'd make sense, but without something like that...
>>
>>56983800
Is this supposed to be b8? I cant imagine anyone on /g could be this stupid

>>56983777
a child can fly a drone
it doesn't require many hours of training
Confirmed for beeing a huge faggot
>>
>>56983920
eh it would come down to voltage sag. when you are fully charged you begin to lose power over the discharge. you will get a better punchout on a fresh battery than one that is less charged. this depends a lot on the build how much you will notice it. it is noticable enough to mention on my f450 and 250 but both of those are using 3s

but again i dont know if that kid is trying to make some sort of joke about a charged battery being heavier than a discharged one or what.
>>
Dont forget once you discharge it you need to store it at 50 percent capacity to maintain a good battery.
so and 11.1v 3c would be something like 11.5v 11.8v.
what the other anons mean by charge it at 1c and no higher is basic lipo charging procedure. a 2200mah battery would have a 1c of 2.2amps. a 4400mah battery would be 4.4amps and so on.
these batteries do catch fire. if you short them even one time you ruin them and turn them into a potential timebomb.
i had an old thunderpower 1900mah 3cell i had used for over 40 flights and was just sitting around collecting dust so i tried shorting it to see what would happen.
had that thing been indoors it would have burned the house down.
very energetic reaction
i dont know what you have there so far as your quad coptor but i am sure that battery is at least a 3 or 4cell lipo.
dont mistreat it. i charge mine in a pyrex pot on porch. and remember store it at half its capacity or in a week it wont be worth dick.
>>
>>56984081
then post your batteries, you still havent posted any of your models. lipos have been used with rc for decades.

the same dangers are also present with lion
>>
>>56984121
i would think its safe to say if the thing takes 4 hours to charge it doesnt have a normal balance charger like you or i would expect. i wonder if it can even storage charge
>>
I want to explode my buddy with one of these? Is it possible?

t. ahmed
>>
>>56984154
i was thinking the same thing. it probably has a charging port on it with internal balancer and low voltage cutoff all built into one control board.
there would need to be a switch to flip that said storage charge or something that sets it to 50 percent i guess.
you are right tho, 4 hours is about 2 hours longer than it should take.
i have an old thunderpower 610c and there isnt a battery i have that isnt up to full charge in 2 hours.
and thinking about it, shouldnt his battery be at 50 percent storage charge already taking half the time it says needed to charge it fully for the first charge cycle?
>>

im looking at a picture of the charger and it is just a little box with no controls. looks like the battery is 2s and the charger only accepts the balance plug so if it just charges via that plug it will balance it but it will charge at a very low rate

looks like a 0.5a or 0.8a
its a gateway toy lol

hey ive been out of the game about 8 years now far as the rc planes go. i started out with eflite tribute brushless setup.
looking around it seems hard to find any 3d capable platforms above 30 inches that look worthwhile.
is there a site where people sell the laser cut foam stuff anymore?
eflite dont seem to have much these days

>>
>>56984454
eh i wouldnt know, i dont have any experience with planes. i have been considering building a proof of concept foamie just to test it out with the ultimate plan of building an endurance surveillance craft for gps controlled orbit and belly mounted camera. might just wait until winter time to begin that since i cant really fly outside in the snow and 0*F weather
>>
>>56984529
Kit from rcexplorer.se - it's David Windestål's site, who you may recognise if you've watched Flite Test or Rotor Riot stuff on YouTube.
>>
>>56984569
looking around one or two things have happened
either shit has gotten a whole lot cheaper since last i looked at the components or
the market has been flooded with cheap junk because the prices are way way lower then ive ever seen them
i may have to build me something out of bluecore just for kicks

looks ace, id love to get somethhing with a bit of range, as all i have are 250's and smaller
>>
>>56984681
both. prices are fucking great right now, especially for planes since there is so little you need.

you can buy your electronics from china if you arent in a hurry and get things for dirt cheap. planes can easily be built for fucking $50 or something like that and when you crash you build another one and move over whatever survived.

my f450 cost over $1000 to build, and my 250 cost about $300 but now that i have bought all of the weird one off shit i only needed once i could redo everything (especially the 450) for like half the cost.

>>
>>56984685

>130x

Eugh, I spent way too much time and money tinkering with that. Just wanted something small I didn't need to take to a field to fly.
>>
>>56984772
tri's are cool, not many people do them because of the funky yaw control.

apparently y-6's are one of the most efficient ones you can build, but coaxial is kind of a black art getting it to work correctly
>>
>>56984896
Ever since I saw a tri for the first time on Flite Test I just thought they *looked* hella cool & after building a couple of miniquads I wanted something different. I've not flown one before building this though, so I'm excited to see what the yaw feels like.
