Just installed Arch for the first time.

What to do next?

I've customized my desktop and installed some apps - pic related.

Jesus fuck, that stupid post made me laugh. Probably time to sleep now.

Anyway, OP, just look around for programs you'd like to try. I spent most of the first week just installing things and testing them until I found a lot of programs I like.

Tell everybody tht you use arch
>>
>>56979339

It always amazes me how someone can come on this board asking a simple, honest question and all of you fags start making 0/10 jokes or try being edgy as fuck.

Also, how did you get Skype Alpha OP?

Install Plasma.

I wanted to but the process of installing it is boring as shit and I don't see the point of having to deal with it. Arch literaly took half an hour

I only have GNOME ricing advice.

1. Look through the gnome-extensions website
2. Install
- Autohide battery
- Dash to Dock (looks like you already have it)
- Gno-menu
- Icon hider
- No topleft hot corner
- Random walls
- Remove drop down arrows
- Status area horizontal spacing
- Topicons plus (desaturation at 1, so everything is black & white)
- configure everything to your liking
3. Go through all the settings in Settings
>>
Either install more stuff or go on about your day as usual
>>
>>56979339
1. Change your 12-hour time to 24-hour time, u plebian.
2. Use dvorak
3. buy a bad dragon product
4. shove keyboard up ass
5. shove dildo in face
6. you are now a true neckbeard
>>
>>56979615
>1. Change your 12-hour time to 24-hour time, u plebian.
What's the benefit? It takes up less room? I think its easier to read AM/PM.
>>
Get rid of Gnome and install Plasma
>>
>>56979635
>analog clock is easier to read than digital
were you raised in 3rd world country?
>>
>>56979655
I never said analog is easier to read than digital. A digital clock can say AM/PM on it.

Honestly, I think it's whatever you're more used to. If you're in the US military, where 24 hour time is standard, you'll probably find 24 hour times easier to process and understand.

I don't think one is objectively superior to the other, except that 24 hour conserves more room.
>>
>>56979339
Uninstall skype and all the 32bit audio stack.
>>
>>56979681
>Honestly, I think it's whatever you're more used to. If you're in the US military, where 24 hour time is standard

Or, you know, the rest of the world
>>
>>56979721
I live in America. Is 24 hour time prevalent outside of America, the one true country?
>>
>>56979681
24 hour format is not some arcane concept that the military uses because they want to be special.
Most people in the rest of world understand the concept that there is 24 hours in a day. Not 2x12 hours.
And if you say to someone to meet up for brunch at 9, they know it is in the morning, no am/pm bs needed.
It is okay to have a spoken language that is less formal than the written one.
>>
>>56979548
Any KDE ricing advice? Is it possible to make the bottom panel transparent?
>>
>>56979791
>24 hour format is not some arcane concept that the military uses because they want to be special.
I never said it was "some arcane concept," just that I find it harder to read. I even said that your stance on "12 vs 24" simply depends on what you're more used to.

>Most people in the rest of world understand the concept that there is 24 hours in a day. Not 2x12 hours.
I think you would have to be literally retarded to not understand that there's 24 hours in a day, and I think you must admit that 12*2=24.

>And if you say to someone to meet up for brunch at 9, they know it is in the morning, no am/pm bs needed.
Agreed. And it's equally fine to take a fraction of a second to clarify AM or PM (which would matter more for a future date).

>It is okay to have a spoken language that is less formal than the written one.
I agree, and I never said I that I had a problem with the 24 hour time format.

I feel like 12 hour time as standard is pretty much only a thing in the US, Australia and NZ. I'm a recent convert after moving to europe.
>>
>>56979864
Unfortunately I don't because I tried KDE and too many things bothered me about it:
- the clock(s) looks ugly
- the balancing act of scaling icons for opened applications vs tray icons vs the height of the taskbar was/is bullshit
- none of the themes (especially the default) were very satisfying

Whereas GNOME looks pretty alright out of the box, all the extensions I listed before fixed all my minor complaints, and the default dark Adwaita theme looks good.

>>56979911
you also don't say 23:00 as "twenty three hundred" or "twenty three o'clock".. you stil say 11pm when talking. maybe thats just my personal experience thus far

Seriously, if you use Arch, then that shows you have little to no regard for free/open source software, so why the fuck are you even using GNU/Linux?

The whole reason to avoid Windows is because of its proprietary bullshit, so why would someone trade Windows proprietary bullshit to Arch's proprietary bullshit?

Gee, I don't know, maybe because unlike windows it's all open source? Maybe the functionality is better for specific use-cases? Just guessing, family.

No, it's not. They make no clear distinction between free/open source software and proprietary software in their repositories, including the AUR.

What anime is this from?
>>
>>56980299

FROM THE ARCH WIKI

What kind of packages are permitted on the AUR?
The packages on the AUR are merely "build scripts", i.e. recipes to build binaries for pacman. For most cases, everything is permitted, subject to the abovementioned usefulness and scope guidelines, as long as you are in compliance with the licensing terms of the content. For other cases, where it is mentioned that "you may not link" to downloads, i.e. contents that are not redistributable, you may only use the file name itself as the source. This means and requires that users already have the restricted source in the build directory prior to building the package. When in doubt, ask.

I.E You're a fucking moron
>>
>>56980330

Don't know mate, never watched anime.
>>
>>56980340
That says nothing about the licenses that AUR packages have. They can be proprietary all they want.

One example of proprietary software among countless examples:
