what does /g/ think of systemd?
>>
if it works, use it. If it starts to become too bloated and silly to maintain. Then switch.

>If it starts to become too bloated and silly to maintain.
You're not maintaining, packaging or contributing to it, so how does that affect you?

I have no problems with it
>>
>>56977645
I don't even know what systemd does.
>>
>>56977645
It's a step in the right direction, which is basically unifying all the linux distros. Once it is complete all the OS infrastructure will be handled by it and distros will finally turn into customization recipes. Next stop will be unifying the packaging.

Anon, you just said what I had in mind

One systemd to rule them all, One systemd to find them,
One systemd to bring them all and for the NSA to bind them
>>
Systemd is the NSA's newest attempt to backdoor linux after they failed to implement backdoors into the linux kernel. This attempt has worked so far since all the major linux distros have adopted systemd. Now there is only one good distro that remains systemd free. Install Gentoo.

Fuck off.

Goes against the gnu philosophy but it is an amazing piece of software that just werks and I hope more software starts becoming like that.

See ALSA and Pulseaudio for example. It'd be easier to troubleshoot one package instead of troubleshooting 50 different sound package

How do you pronounce systemd
System D or systemed
>>
>>56978609

>>
>>56978574
fuck
>>
>>56978642
>he probably used the EasyGentoo script
If you install gentoo the regular way you get OpenRC. It's the easygentoo script that install systemd.

Thats a grand wish but its like saying in order to cure aids we will give you cancer.

Sure there is a minute chance that it will cure your aids, but you sure as hell are getting cancer.
>>
>>56978642
No it ships with OpenRC by default.
You installed something that requires an init system and it pulled systemd because you didn't block it, or you installed it using a script or some shit.
Retard.

>>56978680
how the fuck do you people not automate everything with #BASH
>>
>>56978765
>guise i installed gento by running a script someone else made, am i l33t yet? :DDDDD
>>
>>56978765
Automating things using Bash and running a script someone else wrote are two very different things.
>>
Never had a problem. Should I?
>>
>>56978792
Not unless you value your privacy.
>>
>>56978798
wtf I hate SystemD now
>>
>>56978807
The problem is that the complexity of SystemD makes it easy to introduce vulnerabilities (accidentally or maliciously) into the code and makes them hard to find. Their style guides also encourage using bracket-less blocks, which makes it easy to accidentally introduce vulnerabilities.

The scope of the project also makes it so vulnerabilities can have very far reaching repercussions.

Add in the fact that the NSA does its best at finding (or creating) these in order to spy on people and you can reach the conclusion that SystemD might not be a botnet, but it could also very well be one and no one find out for a while. (Remember heart-bleed, anyone?)

it's ok on desktop computers, but I don't want that shit within a country mile of my servers
