hi.
my andoid phone has 4 gb of user space and with almost no data on the pone at all it says that I am using 3,x gb on "others".
I have no vids, no pics, no thumbnails, no apps, no cache in those few apps, etc.
I manually explored user reachable folders and even installed apps that show folders sizes in descending order and i am using like 300 mb.
Dont want to flash it as I dont want to fuck thinks up and this is working fine.
thanks.
its also brand new. purchased like a week ago.

Holy fuck, what is this? 2006? Just stop being so poor. You can get 32GB chinkphones for like $10 now.

its 8, 4 system reserved.
get/run DiskUsage (fdroid) and see what's on there

So what do you want? Even on my Nexus 5 CM13 takes up about 2.5GB of space. Just buy a phone with more storage.

4 is plenty desu. Use the internal for Apps and keep everything else in a SD if you don't want to buy a new phone.

1. Install all in one toolbox
2. Clean data. Cache, temporary files and thumbnails should be your primary concern.
3. Debloat your phone. Remove any preinstalled apps you don't use, or at least disable them if you don't want to root. This will at least stop them from wasting RAM, making unnecessary cache and draining battery.
Get an mSD to store your shit on, I'm only using 0. 7/32GB on my phone when I do a factory reset, usually I keep it around 1GB. Unless you play tons of games, use offline maps, install masses of apps, store your music and images on your device you shouldn't need more than 4GB, but you could root your phone and reduce or increase your system partition. Although I'm usually against it, you could install your apps onto the mSD, if your phone doesn't support that then you may need to root it.
There's no reason not to root your phone, everything can be fixed easily if you screw up event though there's less than 0.1% chance to screw up. You don't have to flash another ROM, just root it to wipe unnecessary apps at least. You can't really fix your phone unless you have administrative permissions, beyond factory reset there's nothing you can do.

Pro Tip:
Android is a cobbled together, shitty OS made by people that shit openly on the street.
Don't expect it to work well.

That's where all your disk space went; downloading random apps from the web just because some anonymous dude said to.

but there isn't a good alternative, closest thing is iOS, but it isn't created for people who understand tech, it's for normal people, it doesn't have file browser, closed source, safari is worse than any browser (according to html5 test, sub 400, while chrome scores 497 out of 555) etc.

Try a jailbroken IOS phone some time.

as i said it's not for tech people. even with jailbroke that price just doesn't worth it. And if i had shitloads of money i'd buy pixel, which has more battery
